Biography: Dr. Eduardo C. Beauchamp is an Assistant Professor of Orthopedic Surgery with Columbia University's Department of Orthopedic Surgery and is a board-certified Orthopedic Spine Surgeon. His practice focuses on operative treatment of both adult and pediatric spine conditions, including complex spinal deformity, scoliosis, spondylolisthesis, cervical, thoracic and lumbar degenerative conditions, spinal stenosis and disc herniations. He employs minimally invasive techniques, robotic and CT guided navigation for instrumentation as well as open spine surgical techniques to provide an individualized and comprehensive approach to surgical treatment of spinal pathology. Born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Dr. Beauchamp completed medical school and orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Puerto Rico. He then completed an initial fellowship in Orthopedic Spine Surgery at Twin Cities Spine Center in Minneapolis, MN, followed by a second fellowship in Advanced Pediatric Spine Deformity at Columbia University/New York-Presbyterian Hospital. Biography: Dr. Michael G. Vitale specializes in the non-operative and operative treatment of complex pediatric scoliosis and other spinal disorders, and performs approximately 200 scoliosis procedures every year, half of which are in children less than 8 years of age. Dr. Vitale has a special interest in innovative treatments for younger children with scoliosis, including the use of a magnetic spine lengthening device ("MAGEC") which eliminates the need to perform repeat spinal surgeries every 6-9 months on growing children, non-fusion procedures such as vertebral stapling and vertebral tethers, "growing rods," and the "Shilla" procedure. As part of his commitment to innovation in Scoliosis treatment, Dr. Vitale helps to lead the Children's Spine Study Group, which conducts extensive multicenter international research focused on improving the care of young people with scoliosis. Dr. Vitale also leads the Conservative Treatment of Scoliosis Center, with Co-Director Hagit Berdishevsky. Among his interests and expertise is a national reputation in the management of Chiari Malformations and spinal dysraphism. He has an active practice in such subspecialty areas as brain and spinal cord tumors, craniofacial abnormalities, vascular malformations such as Moyamoya, AVMs and cavernous malformations. In an effort to decrease operative time and morbidity as well as hospital stay he has begun to utilize endoscopic assistance to perform common procedures through smaller incisions. This is currently seen in the management of craniosynostosis, chiari malformations and in certain forms of hydrocephalus.
