Biography: Jodie A. Armstrong, M.D. is no stranger to the Heart of Florida area; after all she was born and raised in Ocala. Beginning with her college education, Dr. Armstrong has traveled throughout the country diligently completing her medical training and establishing her medical career. Biography: Hina N. Ahmed, M.D. is a Board-certified, fellowship-trained ophthalmologist. She practices general ophthalmology with primary interests in cataract surgery and laser surgery. Dr. Ahmed is skilled in the latest surgical procedures for cataract removal utilizing including small incision no stitch techniques and enjoys providing comprehensive eye care for her patients. Dr. Ahmed joined Ocala Eye in August 2005 after completing her fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania's Scheie Eye Institute. In 2008 Dr. Ahmed relocated from Ocala to Baltimore, Maryland and joined Omni Eye Specialists. There she continued to provide comprehensive medical and surgical eye care while focusing on community outreach and encouraging preventative eye exams. Dr. Ahmed was instrumental in building relationships with Baltimore area optometrists and co-managing patients with complex disease. She conducted continuing medical education seminars for Baltimore and the surrounding communities. She rejoined the Ocala Eye staff in March 2011. Dr. Ahmed graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Dartmouth College where she garnered cum laude honors. Following her desire to study the systems of the body she set her sights on medicine. She attended Wright State University's medical school where she received recognition as a research fellow and earned her medical degree in 2000. Dr. Ahmed's core ophthalmology training took shape during three years of residency service at the Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. A medical school interest in histology led to a natural exploration of microsurgery techniques in the eye, including cataract surgery. Her caring approach towards her patients and their thorough medical care was recognized in June 2004 by being honored with the Humanism in Ophthalmology Award. Dr. Ahmed is Board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. Biography: Dr. Mancera was born in New York City and moved to South Florida at age four. He attended Nova Southeastern University for college where he was the president of the premedical society. He graduated top of his class receiving the prestigious James Farquhar award. He completed his bachelor's degree in Biology with minors in Business, Chemistry, and Psychology through the Honors program, all while being a full-time martial arts instructor. Dr. Mancera then went to the University of South Florida for medical school where he was the president of his class. He was very involved in international medicine during this time and went on numerous mission trips to Latin America. After his first year of medical school, he completed an exchange program in Colombia where he trained in Tropical Medicine. Following medical school, he completed a year of general surgery residency with the University of South Florida. After finishing his intern year, he went on to complete an Ophthalmology residency. During this time, he served as the chair of the Resident Advisory Committee which entailed representing over seven hundred trainees across eighty different programs. He also served as the Chief Resident during his final year of Ophthalmology training. His passion for surgery and patient care led Dr. Mancera to pursue a two-year fellowship in oculofacial plastic surgery accredited by the American Society of Oculofacial Plastic Surgery. This prestigious society takes less than thirty fellows per year across the United States. He was honored to complete his fellowship under the renowned Dr. Gerald Harris and his team of oculofacial surgeons at the Medical College of Wisconsin. During this time, he gained expertise in the medical and surgical treatment of eyelid and tear duct disorders, skin cancer reconstruction, orbital tumors, facial/orbital trauma, and cosmetic surgery of the face and neck. He is also well versed in less invasive aesthetic rejuvenation techniques ranging from neurotoxins (Botox, Dysport, etc.) to fillers (Restylane, Juvéderm, Kybella, etc.) to lasers/energy-based devices. In his free time, he enjoys traveling, spending time with his dog, and drawing. Dr. Mancera has reached the rank of fourth degree Black Belt and received numerous awards including instructor of the year, and placing top in countless tournaments at a national level. Care Philosophy: The Shettle family has been providing personal quality eye care in Pinellas County since 1972. This tradition of providing excellent comprehensive medical and surgical eye care to the community is carried on today by Dr. Lee Shettle, who has been practicing as a Board Certified Ophthalmologist in Largo since 1994. Dr. Shettle is a true native of Pinellas County, having grown up in Clearwater and then graduating from the first complete class at Pinellas Park High School in 1980. He earned his B.S. degree in Biology at Truman State University and graduated from medical school in Kirksville, Missouri in 1988. Dr. Lee Shettle performed his three year Ophthalmology residency in Detroit, Michigan, in addition to completing a one year fellowship in Cataract and Refractive Surgery in Denver, Colorado and a one year fellowship in Neuro-Ophthalmology at Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan. Dr. Shettle is an Assistant Clinical Professor at both NOVA Southeastern College of Osteopathic Medicine in South Florida and Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan. He is a member of the American Osteopathic Association, Pinellas County Osteopathic Medical Society, Florida Osteopathic Association and the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He received the Presidential Achievement Award from the A.O.C.O.O. in addition to being voted Physician of the Year by the Pinellas County Osteopathic Medical Society in 2006. Dr. Lee Shettle is actively involved in his local, state and national medical organizations in order to stay current with all the rules and regulations that affect the practice of medicine and ultimately patient care. He is certified by the American Osteopathic College of Ophthalmology and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Dr. Shettle also enjoys teaching interns, residents and fellows in various medical specialties in his office to help these young physicians understand the ocular manifestations of systemic disease so they can then diagnose, treat and then teach future physicians as well. He also has a great interest in giving lectures to fellow physicians at both the local, state and national level.
