Patrick B. Cooper, MD, FAANS joined Einstein Healthcare Network's Division of Neurosurgery and is a member of the Einstein Spine Institute, an interdisciplinary team of Einstein physicians from Neurosurgery, Neurology, Orthopedics, Pain Management, and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Dr. Cooper joined us from Walter Reed National Military Medical Center where he had been a senior staff neurosurgeon from 2006 to 2015. During that time he was the Center's director of neurosurgical oncology and the neurosurgery consultant to the Army Surgeon General from 2012 to 2015. Dr. Cooper is board-certified in neurological surgery and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel from the U.S. Army in 2015. He earned his medical degree from the F. Edward Hebert School of Medicine at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, MD. He completed his internship and neurosurgery residency training at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and received additional, specialized training in Gamma Knife Radiosurgery and Stereotactic Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh, Department of Neurological Surgery. Dr. Rihn graduated from Duquesne University in 1998 with a B.S. in Biology and a B.A. in Theology. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in 2002 where he was selected to the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Medical Honor Society. He completed his Orthopaedic Surgery residency at the University of Pittsburgh, and a Fellowship in Spinal Surgery at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. Dr. Rihn is an Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Rothman Institute and the Sidney Kimmel Medical of Thomas Jefferson, where he instructs residents and fellows in the evaluation and treatment of a variety of spinal conditions. He is the Co-director of Spine Surgery at the Rothman Institute and Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and the Co-director of the Regional Spinal Cord Injury Center of the Delaware Valley. Dr. Rihn has over 150 peer and non-peer reviewed publications and book chapters and has edited several books and special journal issues related to the spine. He continues to be active in research and education that pertains to the evaluation and treatment of spinal conditions.
