Care Philosophy: My goal is to put the patient in charge of their care. Although spinal and brain related health problems can be complicated, I want each of my patients to feel they fully understand their treatment options. I always explore every non-operative treatment before even considering surgery. When there are no better long term treatments, I offer unique minimally invasive spine surgery techniques, often operating through incisions the size of a dime, this reduces pain, risks, and recovery time.

Care Philosophy: Dr. Hughes thinks informed, shared-decision making with patients is crucial in a surgical practice. For some patients, surgery may not be the best option or an option at all, and Dr. Hughes believes knowing when not to operate is just as important as knowing when to operate. When surgery is an option, surgical indications, goals, risks and benefits should be clear, as well as if there is a low, intermediate, or high probability that an operation will improve a patient's problem and fulfill his or her expectations.
