Biography: Terry Walker Smith, MD, is a graduate of the University of Tennessee Center for Health Sciences. He trained in family medicine at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis Tennessee, where he served as Chief Resident.Smith has been practicing since 1986 in the Chattanooga area where he began as a clinical instructor for the University of Tennessee's Department of Family Medicine. He has been in private practice since 1986, and most recently joined Occupational Health Services as Medical Director in February, 2015. Smith's practice specializes in the care of occupational health injuries and management and health surveillance focused on injury and illness prevention. In April, 2015, the practice extended its scope of practice to include family medicine, wellness, and disease prevention. Smith's interests also nutrition, food allergies, and pharmacology in the Cytochrome P450 System, and genetics.Smith has done extensive research in genetics and has written numerous articles on hypertension and the Methylene Tetra Hydro Folate Reductase gene, which metabolizes folic acid, and has been linked to autism, Downs Syndrome, and Spina Bifida.Smith is board certified in family medicine, is a certified Medical Review Officer, and the National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners.
