Dr. Africk did my second back surgery at Carle Hospital in Urbana, Illinois. Mostly she cleaned up the mess done by a highly recommended surgeon in Indianapolis. She went the extra mile to explain what she will do and everything after the surgery. I always have said if I ever need surgery again I would travel to wherever she is.

You are never a priority, regardless of your condition or pain. Her schedule varies on the SAME DAY from “booked for two months” to “we can get you in in two weeks” all depending on the office or Drs whim. Do I need to be seen at the University, or is this just another symptom of lack of prioritizing patients? Regardless, who wants to take a chance, that I wouldn’t be her priority in surgery? After all, She might have a meeting

Horrible bedside manner's! Lacks empathy, seems to be a very miserable person and unhappy. I have been told for 10 years there is nothing they can do for my spinal injuries and she wanted to do back surgery,I ask if she could guarantee that it would help, she said no. She kept me in her office for over two hours after they canceled my first appointment after I drove an hour there and waited over an hour. She is a disgrace and should be fired,I would not ever recommend her with her bitter attitude

HORRIBLE! Permanently paralyzed -surgical injury by Dr. Cynthia Africk, Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton, OH. Nerve was draped between discs and not returned to proper location before closure. Pains intensified 100%; constantly told be patient and increased drugs. Wheelchair bound-4 months, I changed surgeons who discovered the error and performed corrective surgery, nerve decompression Also undergone bridle procedure-transfer tendons, ligaments, muscle from leg to foot. Former athlete!!

My husband had to have a fusion, spacers & titanium plate placed on his spine. Cynthia Africk M.D. did his surgery. There have been improvements, much better than he was prior to the surgery but still suffers from numbing & tingling due to spinal cord & nerve damage (prior to surgery). She has a stiff type bedside manner. Dr. Africk doesn't like to place patients on pain medications for an extended amount of time due to the possibility of addiction. The recovery time was more than expected.

I felt Dr. Africk was indifferent and uncaring. She used unprofessional language in her dictation. After my imaging was done she told me she couldn't do surgery and wouldn't give me painkillers. Her tone made me feel like she thought I was lying about my pain and was drug-seeking. I was devastated by the news and she basically just sat there smirking when I began crying. It was a terrible experience. It's awful to have a doctor not believe you when you're in so much pain. I do not recommend her.

It took three months to get an appointment. She did a poor job explaining what she was going to do in surgery and the expected recovery. Because she did not fully listen to me on two presurgery visits, I had to have a second surgery higher up in the spine with another surgeon to complete treatment. After surgery, she quickly stopped seeing me, and told me I was done.
