Biography: Karan Dua, MD is an Orthopedic surgeon specializing in the treatment of structures affecting the form and function of the entire arm. Karan is a Brooklyn native, and a proud member of the New York community. After earning his Doctorate of Medicine (MD) from Stony Brook University School of Medicine, he completed an Orthopedic Surgery Residency at Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY. He has dedicated his career to studying and training in the surgical management of the Upper Extremity. He first completed a Hand, Upper Extremity, and Microvascular Surgery Fellowship at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, IL. Upon completion, he trained at Harvard Medical School for his Shoulder and Elbow Fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, MA. Karan is on the forefront of researching and designing innovative, novel surgical techniques for reconstructing the arm. He has an avid interest in open and arthroscopic tendon transfers of the shoulder, complex reconstructions after failed surgery, arthroscopic and minimally invasive techniques for nerve decompression including the brachial plexus and around the shoulder blade, and tendon transfers for scapular winging. Karan is a passionate researcher and writer. He has been awarded multiple research grants studying wrist and elbow reconstruction techniques, nerve gliding in the upper extremity, and continues to pursue these efforts at Columbia University. He has published over 30 peer reviewed journal articles, authored several book chapters in leading Orthopedic surgery textbooks, and presented his research at national and international conferences. Dr. Dua is a participating member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), American Society for Surgery of the Hand (ASSH), and the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES). Karan strives to help his patients achieve their functional goals and works rigorously to improve their experience. He strongly believes in incorporating new technologies to accomplish this, and works in a collaborative manner with his colleagues to create unique treatment plans that are specifically tailored to each patient. Biography: Dr. Shakil Ahmed is a board-certified pain physician with over two decades of experience at Weill Cornell Medicine. After completing six years of surgical training in the United Kingdom and earning his Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS), Dr. Ahmed pursued residency training in anesthesiology at Columbia University, followed by a quad-institutional Pain Fellowship program at New York-Presbyterian, Hospital for Special Surgery, Memorial Sloan Cancer Center and Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center.Since joining the Anesthesiology department in 2001, Dr. Ahmed has been dedicated to advancing pain management through clinical care, teaching, and research. He currently serves as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Anesthesiology and has held significant roles such as Interim Director and Associate Director of the Tri-Institute Pain Medicine Fellowship Program.Dr. Ahmed's expertise spans chronic pain management, including chronic back pain, acute pain, neuropathic pain, post-herpetic neuralgia, phantom limb pain, pelvic pain, post-laminectomy pain syndrome, and chronic pain from degenerative joint diseases. He is adept at performing diagnostic and therapeutic spinal injections, discography, percutaneous discectomy, implantation of spinal cord stimulators and intrathecal pumps, and pulsed and thermal radiofrequency neurolysis. Integral to his practice is the pursuit of cutting-edge pain techniques including spinal cord stimulation, radiofrequency neurolysis, intrathecal pain therapies, percutaneous disc decompression, and non-invasive laser therapy. Additionally, he has a special interest in developing a comprehensive cancer pain program in collaboration with his oncology colleagues.Dr. Ahmed is actively involved in medical research and is the principal investigator in research collaboration for the advancement of state-of-the-art pain technologies. He has co-authored several publications on cancer pain and regional anesthesia techniques and is actively involved in the fellowship training program, resident training, grand rounds, and case conferences. His contributions to medical education and patient care have been recognized with numerous awards, including the Best Medical Student Teacher Award at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. Dr. Ahmed's expertise has also been internationally recognized, as he has been invited by The American-Austrian Foundation as a visiting professor to teach pain medicine to physicians from eastern European countries.With a strong commitment to mentorship and interdisciplinary collaboration, Dr. Ahmed continues to lead and innovate in the field of pain medicine.

Biography: Dr. Darwin Chen is an Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Mount Sinai Hospital, in the Leni and Peter W. May Department of Orthopaedics. He specializes in joint replacement surgery of the hip and knee as well as hip preservation. Dr. Chen received his undergraduate degree with honors from Stanford University. He earned his medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. He completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. At Mount Sinai, he was selected as the administrative chief resident during his final year of residency, an honor bestowed by his mentors and peers. In addition, he received the prestigious Dr. Robert Sieffert Award three times during residency for his outstanding academic achievements and clinical excellence. Dr. Chen completed a fellowship in adult reconstruction/joint replacement at Rush University Medical Center, widely regarded as one of the top adult reconstruction fellowships in the country. At Rush, he trained with the pioneers and leaders of the field, including Drs. Wayne Paprosky, Aaron Rosenberg, Joshua Jacobs, Richard Berger, Craig Della Valle, and Scott Sporer. During his fellowship, Dr. Chen gained extensive experience in minimally invasive surgery as well as complex and revision arthroplasty. Following Rush, Dr. Chen completed further subspecialty training in hip preservation surgery as a part of a unique traveling hip fellowship at top centers in the US and Europe. He trained at Saint John's Health Center in Los Angeles with Dr. Joel Matta, Washington University in Saint Louis with Dr. John Clohisy, Schulthess Klinik in Zurich, Switzerland with Dr. Michael Leunig, and Inselspital in Bern, Switzerland. Dr. Darwin Chen specializes in hip and knee replacement, minimally invasive surgery, as well as complex and revision arthroplasty. He performs partial knee replacement, as well as direct anterior hip replacement using the innovative hana® orthopaedic table. In addition, he has a special interest in hip preservation surgery, performing periacetabular osteotomy (PAO) and surgical hip dislocation. Academically, Dr. Chen is part of the core teaching faculty at Mount Sinai, and regularly lectures and teaches at the orthopaedic residency program. He has been a guest speaker at multiple national meetings and has written numerous peer reviewed journal articles and book chapters. His clinical research interests include the influence of surgical approach (direct anterior vs. mini-posterior) on the outcomes of total hip arthroplasty.

Biography: Joan Stilling, MD, MSc is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Rehabilitation Medicine at Weill Cornell and Columbia University Medical Center with board certification in rehabilitation medicine, brain injury medicine, and electromyography. She specializes in general neurorehabilitation, including stroke, concussion, and traumatic brain injury. She researches different methods of non-invasive brain stimulation for use in stroke and traumatic brain injury rehabilitation.Dr. Stilling received her bachelor's degree in chemical engineering with a biomedical specialization from McGill University, Montreal, Canada. She realized her interest in brain stimulation technologies and their interface between engineering and medicine. She was involved in various projects exploring tissue and materials engineering applications focused on neurologic recovery. She went on to study medicine at the University of Calgary, Canada, and obtained her Doctor of Medicine in 2015. She subsequently completed a Master of Science degree through the study of non-invasive brain stimulation technologies for the treatment of post-concussion symptoms and post-traumatic headache.Dr. Stilling completed her medical residency training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Calgary and her post-doctoral training at Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD in neurorehabilitation and non-invasive brain stimulation. She has been involved in the clinical application of transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) and repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) for both inpatient and outpatientneurorehabilitation patients. She also has clinical experience in treating muscle stiffness and spasticity, performing electromyography and nerve conduction studies for musculoskeletal and neurologic disorders, orthotics and wheelchair prescription, and general muscle and joint rehabilitation.Dr. Stilling is keenly interested in exploring new technologies and their various applications in the rehabilitation population. She is currently involved in research investigating mechanisms of post-stroke motor and languagerecovery using both functional MRI (fMRI) and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS). She also investigates the use of tDCS as a treatment for post-stroke fatigue motor and language recovery, TMS as a treatment of post-traumatic headache and persistent post-concussion symptoms, and interventional treatments for spasticity and muscle stiffness.
