Wouldn't see her again
Dr. Nixon did a good job diagnosing my son and making sure he got the cast he needed. That being said, she didn't explain my son's break until I asked multiple questions. I also had multiple questions about his restrictions and she made me feel like I was bothering her and wasting her time. On our second visit, the visit to remove the cast, I asked a question about the bone that had broken, and she snapped at me as she corrected me! When I told our primary care physician about Dr. Nixon, she said she'd heard several of her patients say they'd had similar experiences. Which is too bad, because we've always gotten great treatment at Children's.

Overcoding and overcharge.
My daughter had a small fracture on her left arm, so we went to her office to get the cast on after ER visit. She talked to us for only 10 minutes about the X-rays from ER, then her assistant put the cast on my daughter (shoulder to hand). After several weeks, we got the bills. She charged us $1,742 for our visit and it is still $959 after insurance negotiation. I am a medical coding specialist, so I looked through the bills carefully. She billed me with CPT code 99204, which is for office/outpatient visit 45-49 minutes. It is overcoding for 10 minutes talking and should be 99202 (<20 minutes). For putting on the cast, she billed me with CPT code 24530, closed treatment of supracondylar or transcondylar humeral fracture, with or without intercondylar extension, instead of using 29065, application of cast, shoulder to hand (long arm). That is overcoding too. The charge amount is also way too high comparing to national average price for those two overcoded codes.

She is rude. Bedside manner is terrible. I wasn't a huge fan when we first met, but she seemed to do well with my child. We disagreed with her on one thing regarding said child and she immediately began accusing us of not having our child's best interest in mind. She accused us of increasing our child's risk for disease and a terrible life. Immediately following this appointment we were obviously marked off of her list of patients she wanted to care for. We had a scan for my child which results were never reported to us. I followed up weeks later to inquire of results and was given results in a short email-"scan was clear". We were then called by the office and told our next scheduled appointment was cancelled and we would not be rescheduled.

Ms. Nixon is a rude and condescending woman who has absolutely zero bedside manner. She does NOT examine you and acts as if your concerns are "ridiculous" with frequent eye rolls and sighs as if you are simply wasting her time. She actually told us that our grandmother who is in her 90s and had a broken hip would probably die (of course she was very wrong). The office staff is extremely rude as well. Probably from spending their days with Ms. Nixon (notice I do NOT refer to her as a doctor).

Dr. Nixon took one look at my x-rays and knew immediately why I had been experiencing debilitating pain for almost two years. It was less than 6 weeks from her original diagnosis to a complete, successful surgery! I would add that this was NOT some simple, straight- forward, easy operation!! This was complicated and required awesome medical skills! I can't recommend this doctor highly enough! My wife and I have been left in awe by both her ability and her professionalism!! THANK YOU!!

I had a fib, tib plateau break on December 31st 2015. I am not from Cortez, visiting sister for the holidays. I was recommended to Dr. Nixon by southwest memorial hospital. I believe that was a Friday, by Monday she was able to get me in. She was very good at explaining and showing me on X-rays exactly where it was broken and how she would fix it. I would highly recommend her for any orthopedic problems!

Dr. Nixon was kind, caring and insightful when it came to my neck and shoulder pain. We pursued a couple of courses to fix and thanks to her patience and concern, we found a solution that worked for me.
