Broken Thumb, Lang was dismissive and downplayed
I broke my thumb on my dominant hand. My thumb has clear deformity, discolored, swollen, no range of motion, painful. I was referred to Dr Patrick Lang whom I saw today in SF, I have been a patient in the office with another doctor there for over 15 years. Lang was dismissive toward me, didn’t listen to me when I told him of my worry and pain level. He barely looked at my thumb, he touched it for about 3 seconds. My middle joint was clearly deformed and is sticking out on the side. After 9 days from my injury I relayed to him, my pain level was still significant. I told him of my job, my dominant hand,I couldn’t move my thumb or grip. I told him the nature of my injury, my thumb became immediately discolored, swollen. I told him I was alternating aspirin during the day, gave me no advice on exercises, I had to ask him several times, gave me no guidance. I asked for a weeks worth of Norco for nighttime, finding it hard to sleep, he refused. I’ve never been treated so poorly there.

If I could leave no stars, I would. Dr. Lang repaired an arthritic thumb for me in 2016. On my one week post-op return visit, I was told he would see me again in "6" weeks for follow up...a "red flag" for the poor care that followed. He appeared to not read my chart, encouraging me to take meds that caused vomiting and nausea. I found him uninterested and disengaged most of the time. Unsympathetic best describes his demeanor and quality of care. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND DR. LANG.

Failed to diagnose a broken wrist. Prescribed physical therapy while there was broken glass in my wrist. This caused further damage to the wrist.

Great at explaining procedures, at explaining healing process / what to expect, great surgeon. Hopefully, I had bad luck w staff. If your pain medication does not work you might advise staff to suggest alternate, not - that's nice... just be in pain. If someone can't wait 3 weeks for an appointment, you might advise staff to suggest a referral, not - that's nice... wait anyway. If you don't understand the insurance billing process - repeated non-answer isn't helpful. Dr.=Win. Staff=Meh.
