OUTSTANDING
After meeting with two other surgeons in the Pensacola & Gulf Breeze, FL area and encountering nothing but huge egos, attitude and little compassion, I gratefully met Dr Kern. He was direct, attentive and knowledgeable. I underwent a spinal fushion L3 - S1 in July 2019. Completely changed my life... and four years later I am still 100% pain free.

Dr Kern is funny, attentive, smart and frankly in my opinion probably saved my life when another neurosurgeon in our area dropped the ball and didn’t have my shunt checked after an MRI while I was in the hospital and it went months either intermittently working or not working at all sometimes. He also performed my neck fusion which the other surgeon knew I needed but didn’t want to treat. Kern is an absolute blessing!!! Couldn’t ask for a better surgeon, a guy who gives you information straight. I would give him six stars if I could…

Absolutely! This man is a frigin GENIUS! I’ve never had a Doctor who was so compassionate and I’m 67! He is a wonderful gentleman and smart. He performed a neck fusion and removed two other braces from previous neck fusions! I was in a coma for 2 weeks and a wheelchair for a year when I had my first one by Dr. Flotte in Mobile! When Dr. Kern operated, it was more complicated; however, I was in the ICU for only 3 days and was up & walking by myself within 6-8 weeks. I was supposed to be in a neck brace for a year but I was able to remove it after 5 months. I didn’t have a referral for Dr. Kern. Actually, I researched all the Neurosurgeons in Pensacola as well as the entire area from Tallahassee to Mobile and I picked him as the best. He was and still is!

Words cannot express the gratitude I feel for Dr. Mathew Kern & the level of expertise, confidence, courage, experience, wisdom, medical genius; 2nd to none, that he exhibited during my most complex & complicated spinal surgery involving a significant portion of my spine from C-4 thru T-5(10 vertebrae). I strongly recommend everyone from Jacksonville, FL to Atlanta, Georgia to Pensacola & Panama City, FL to Birmingham, Alabama on to New Orleans, LA & anywhere; trust & seek his surgical expertise & capabilities, if you have a problem with your spine; It would be only Dr. Mathew Kern, M.D. (Neurosurgeon); this amazing spinal surgeon, a leader in his profession, that I would strongly recommend for your spinal needs. I am living proof of his genius and capabilities. He is the Mozart, the Picasso, the Michael Angelo and Leonardo DaVinci of Neurosurgery. Need pages to say it all! His medical staff; best in their profession. Shelby Brinson, Kristina, Tina & Beverly, Thank you, too.

I am very happy with my surgery results. After being shuffled around by other doctors in a different healthcare system with no pain relief I was feeling frustrated. He and his team had me diagnosed and a welcome surgery performed in days . I am now pain free and feeling normal again. They make you feel at ease and the team of Beverly , Kristina , Tina, along with P.A. Shelby Brinson took care of everything. Dr. Kern is very direct and to the point and I like that. That's what I like in a doctor. " This is what's causing your pain and I know how to take care of that". That's all I needed to hear. I Highly recommend this team.

Lorrie Knapp referred me to Dr Kern for a 2nd opinion on my spinal fracture from a car accident on June 4, 2019. Dr Kern sent me for a MRI. Afterwards he placed me on his surgical schedule to stabilize my spine. Now I have a strong healing spine & I won't become paralyzed! Thank you Dr Kern!

Went to Dr Kern for severe lower back pain to discover my L4-L5 disk completely destroyed. After a disk fusion I am free of pain and well on to a full recovery. Dr. Kern is a very knowledgable Dr but if you are looking for a Dr that minces his words then he is not that. He says his few words and moves on. His PA and nurses Shelby, Kristina and Tina are over the top and make a great team. You choose a Dr to take care of your problem and Dr. Kern was a great choice for me.

I recently had a referral to dr. Kern in late June 2019. Dr. Kern is a No-Frills kind of guy. He tells you exactly the way it is. I saw him on a Monday at 10 a.m. and by 11 a.m. he had placed me in the hospital at West Florida for severe damage to my spine that had resulted in drop foot. I'd had a previous fusion to l 3 and 4 of my low back. Dr. Kern took on the task of removing my previous fusion and completed a new fusion from l-3 through l5. Because of dr. Kerns quick diagnosis and his skilled actions I am back to working out three times a week at the gym. If not for this awesome doctor I most likely would have been crippled for the rest of my life. Thank you dr. Kern for a job well done.

I was referred to Dr. Kern by the VA for a pinched nerve in my neck. There are doctors and then there is Dr. Kern, I was nervous about the outcome of my visit. Dr. Kern is a very laid man. When I talked with Dr. Kern he put my mind to rest. He talked to me in a way that lowered my anxiety a great deal. Dr. Kern is straight and upfront with you about what he is going to do and it may help you and it may not there are no guarantees. The nice an special thing about Dr. Kern is he likes to joke around with you to help you feel a little easier about what you are facing.

Saw Dr. Kern as a result of back injury. He's kinda short, balding, blunt, furry, and he's a prior Army medic. In short, exactly the type of person I wanted doing a surgery that had a high potential to turn me into a parapalegic. One week after surgery and I'm the mend and better than ever. His office staff is also second to none. Kristina literally took the task and argued with our insurance company, advocating for us and helping us the entire way.. I can't say enough about his practice except they are the absolute BEST.

Without Dr. Kern I may have been crippled. I came into the ER with extreme sudden back pain and Dr. Kern took the time to review my symptoms and MRI and immediately admitted me to the hospital for surgery the next day. They had to perform a Laminectomy and remove tissue that was compressing my Sacral Nerve. The surgery was a success and four weeks later I am a new man! The follow-up was great and his staff was very friendly and helpful. I would recommend Dr, Kern and his staff to anyone and ever

Dr. Kearn may be a good surgeon, the jury is still out. This man has "0" bedside manner. Unfortunately for his patients he's too old to change his behavior. If you expect more than 1% empathy from him, you may be disappointed. On the other hand, his staff is nice and professional and West Florida Hospital outpatient operating room seems top notch.
