Dr. Joseph Whatley, MD

This surgeon caused me to have a heart attack during my first hip replacement and broke my femur during the second hip surgery, when he pounded in the prothesis too hard. I made a complaint to Kaiser but never heard anything from them. I would never recommend Joseph Whatley to anybody.

I wouldn't trust this man to perform surgery on a corpse much less a person I care about. He is beyond arrogant to the point he cannot hear what you are trying to tell him about your body. He also will lecture you for 45 minutes about your weight. Also do not expect him to be on time!

He was very knowledgeable and informed me throughout the whole procedure. He has very approachable. My surgery turned out perfect. I would highly recommend him for your hip replacement.

Dr. Whatley is AMAZING! When the orthopedic drs in Tacoma wouldn’t do my knee surgery on both my knees because I was 48 years old and I was able to see Dr whatley and he told me he would do them, I was beyond excited to start being able to have a life! THANK YOU DR. Whatley

I recommend to EVERYONE! My husband had a hip replacement and a wonderful experience with the best results anyone could want! He does knees too so when I tore the meniscus on both sides of one knee - fully expected to have him schedule me for immediate surgery. Instead he asked me if I was willing to follow a treatment/exercise plan to see if I would heal without surgery. In 6 weeks, I was healing well so we decided against surgery. That was 1-1/2 ago and I’m doing incredible!

Joe fixed my left ankle nearly half a lifetime ago when I was 18 years old. I suffered with chronic pain between my calcaneus and talus bones. The solution was a fusion pin to prevent impact between the bones. I have been gratefully pain free since his good work.

Dr Whatley was my surgeon for total hip replacement in March, 2016. I greatly appreciated his direct and informative manner. He has a realistic approach in regard to pre and post surgery and the way people live their lives. I began the process full of fear and Dr Whatley inspired trust and confidence. I am so happy with my new hip and am free from the chronic pain and severe lack of mobility. He told me exactly what to expect. I followed the rules and he delivered. Excellent surgeon. Thank you.

Dr. Whatley did my double knee replacement back at end of December in '07. He did an amazing job. Other doctors there refused to do my surgery because of my body size. I wrote letter of complaint to the hospital. Dr Whatley responded to the complaint saying he would do the surgery. I am so happy still, 9 years later with the job he did. I was out of hospital by day 3. Back to work week 4 and back on my Harley on week 7.

Dr. Whatley replaced my knee and did a wonderful job. I spent just two days in the hospital, the doctor doesn't want Malinga ring in the hospital. He did a great job stapling my incision. I will have him replace my hip in several months.
