Dr. Matsen is the best shoulder surgeon. I feel blessed/fortunate to have had Matsen repair my shoulder. The entire staff at the U of W & Dr. Matsen are very caring, thorough, & present. A great team.

I had major shoulder surgery in Florida which didn’t work out. If it wasnt for Dr Matsen which found the problem the infection in my shoulder and replaced my joint with a better replacement, I probably wouldn’t be here.

Excellent patient care before and following shoulder surgery. I have had (unfortunately) several orthopedic sports related surgeries. The experience with Dr. Matsen and his team was one of the best.

I have been seeing Dr. Matsen for several years. He is careful, capable, kind and has a wonderful team. He had to do a revision on my total shoulder surgery 2 years after it had originally been done. The difference in the doctor and the team was so reassuring. I will be seeing him when my other arm needs surgery even though I have to travel from Portland, Oregon to Seattle to do it.

Had hemiarthroplasty of left shoulder done by Dr. Matsen 7 years ago. Pre-surgery had extremely limited range of motion and constant pain from arthritic degeneration. After surgery I was extremely conscientious about doing the (lengthy, rigorous and uncomfortable) rehab exercises correctly and the result has been a perfect bomb-proof left shoulder joint with no activity restrictions. Tennis, racquetball, rock climbing, kayaking, golf, wood splitting, heavy lifting all pain free.

If you are considering shoulder surgery, there is no better doctor, in my opinion, than Dr. Matsen. He is respected nationwide and is generally considered one of the top 20 shoulder surgeons in the country. He is approachable and technical in his approach, and extremely passionate about his job. I had the Ream and Run done, and everything so far has gone exactly as planned. I would recommend Dr. Matsen to my closest friends and family with no hesitation!
