Happy Patient
My experience with Dr. Chappell was thoroughly positive. I saw him at age 76 after multiple emergency-room visits over a period of 50 years for a cardiac-rhythm issue that no ER doctor until now thought worth pursuing. With the referral of an excellent ER physician at MacKenzie Willamette Hospital, I saw Dr. Chappell, who explained my condition thoroughly yet succinctly. He went through the plusses and minusses of possible treatments and gave his conservative recommendation, which I accepted. I had several questions (some prepared in advance) along the way, all of which he answered to my satisfaction. He even ran an extra EKG in the office in response to one of my questions. (Great staff, by the way.) Dr. Chappell did what he needed to do, with concern, thoroughness, and efficiency. The appointment moved quickly but I didn't feel rushed. I count myself lucky to have found this practice.

Time to Retire Jay
I was changed to Dr. Chappell from another provider in the Heart Group. He started out by yelling at me for using a term he didn't like. Almost walked out right then. I haven't been to a more uncaring doctor in my whole life. He sucks, his staff is great. I recommend the staff but not him.

Avoid - poor office communication, results delays
My mom was referred to Dr. Chappell for heart conditions. The initial visit seemed ok. When calling for information or follow up appointments, you listen to a long message and are emphatically told to not call back; the staff would return calls within 24 hours. Sometimes staff called back soon, but often took days for a call. My mom got cancer about a year later. I called to try to schedule appointments to address dizziness and shortness of breath, Dr. Chappell, through his office staff, avoided follow up appts and once the cancer started, I was told that we had to rule out all other reasons as the cause of the dizziness before he would see her again. She wore a heart holter he wanted her to wear before he would see her. So she wore one in the Spring. I tried to get results. It is now July and they are now trying to give results. My mom had heart failure in May and in the hospital was given medications that are working. She is in hospice, but her heart is doing much better w/ new meds

Nope
I think this doc was probably good back in the day - 20+ years ago but don’t think he has stayed relevant. Probably good for blood pressure monitoring, routine EKG and the like, but not anything more complicated. Extremely resistant to new technology and procedures, very impatient with questions and short with my mom and dad who were scared. We asked for a referral for a second opinion and he flatly refused saying we didn’t need one. He bad-mouthed another doctor who specializes in the procedure we had questions about, not once, by twice. My grandma and great aunt loved him- 30 years ago. His bedside manner has “shifted” over the years and now is lacking in sympathy and patience. On a positive note, the schedulers, insurance specialists and nurses were wonderful.

The staff are very efficient, friendly and accommodating. Wait time has always been minimal (5-10 minutes!). Dr. Chappell is friendly, unhurried, thorough, and willing to take the time to discuss any questions or issues. I have been treated by a number of cardiologists since the onset of my heart failure in 1992, and rate Dr. Chappell very highly.

I've been treated by Dr. Chappell for onset arterial disease and dyspnea. I found him polite, informative and direct. I trust him explicitly and implicitly for my cardiac care. I'd give a 5th star if I had been seeing him for a few more years.

I have never been treated more poorly. Dr Chappell informed me that my question was above his pay scale to have to explain. His appointment setters are just as useless.

This so called doctor thinks he's above having to explain any of my concerns. In fact he stated that explaining my emergency room results was beyond his pay scale. The ER had sent me to him to find out my lab results. It's not like I was at his office with a sore throat. I was there regarding my heart. Do yourself a favor and avoid this doctor and his office staff. But if you like being treated like poorly...then by all means see dr chappel. He couldn't care any less.

We have moved to Bend, Oregon and are sad that we have to find another cardiologist. He took excellent care of my husband and kept me well informed which I truly appreciated. I would recommend Dr. Chappell to my family and friends and another person reading this review. Thank you Dr. Chappell!

The ER doctor suggested I have a follow up appointment with Dr Chappell. However during this appointment I asked two questions regarding my results from the lab work the ER performed and Dr. Chappell informed me that it was above his pay scale to have to explain it to me I wouldn't go back to him if he was the last doctor on the face of this earth. He has no business being or calling himself a doctor.
