2018; 73 yrs old, bowling 25 games/wk, golf 5 rounds/wk in gym 5 days/wk. Developed severe back and leg pain in Nov and was referred to Dr. Bhowmick by Cary Ortho after an MRI showed a thoracic disc bulge. Saw him in Dec. 2018. Recommended PT. Did ok, but by July 2019 things got worse. Had another MRI and saw Dr. Bhowmick in July having to use a cane to wslk. Scheduled fusion surgery in August. Was wheel chaired into UNC, had fusion surgery on Monday and walked out on Friday! To me the surgery was a miracle! He is an excellent, conservative surgeon with a fantastic neuro staff of doctors and nurses at UNC hospital and the UNC Spine Center. I found him to be somewhat conservative, easy to communicate, discussed all options and had excellent post surgery follow up. After less than 6 months am 95%, off all pain meds, in gym with weights and cardio and looking forward to bowling in March and golf in August. Again, I can’t say enough about him, his staff, UNC, and the results.

Dr. Bhowmick is an excellent doc. His bedside is amazing. He explains very clearly. Chapel Hill is a teaching hospital so he has many residents under him. We did not see him everyday post surgery, but his skills gave my granddaughter her life back. We traveled from California to North Carolina for his expertise in Tethered Cord Syndrome. Spent six weeks there under his care. He continues to follow her case and will for many years. There are not enough words to express out gratutude to this gentle, personal, caring doctor. The hospital was beautiful, clean and has a wonderful staff.

I am an achondroplasia dwarf with multiple spine issues. Dr.Bhowmick is the most skilled surgeon I have ever encountered in my life. I had to have a cervical fusion on top of a mid level laminectomy. He was very carrying sometimes funny and extremely knowledgeable of the dwarf spine. So glad to have found him.

So very compassionate and knowledgeable. What a relief to finally find an orthopedic/neurologist who wants to help find the reason for my pain.

I have never had a worse experience with a doctor. I was referred to him due to the face I have a spinal disorder that has deteriorated over the past 2 years. My curvature is now 89.1 degrees (normal is 20-40) and I have started to develop compression in my neck. He "looked" at my MRIs and refused to even see me. The message to me was to go to therapy, which i have been in for 4 months. Turns out he never looked at my MRI's because UNC didn't even have them. So unprofessional!
