Biography: My grandmother was a nurse for over 40 years, and I thought she was the coolest person on Earth. I wanted to go into healthcare to be like her. I chose obstetrics and gynecology because it incorporates the best parts of medicine. I get to see patients throughout their lifetime and develop relationships, and I get to practice in multiple settings - office, operating room, and labor and delivery. \n I work hard to stay current on new medications and techniques in my field. I like to make the patient the team leader for their healthcare team and empower them to make the best decisions while taking both science and their personal perspectives into consideration. I strive to make all patients feel comfortable so they are able to develop a relationship with me that fosters trust and respect. I am a strong supporter of the LGBTQ+ community and believe in health equality. \n I was the first surgeon in our area and with the Novant Health system to perform a vNOTES hysterectomy that allows for a complex surgery to be completed without any incisions on the abdomen. \n I have an interest in hormones, menopause, vulvar dermatoses, sexual medicine and infertility. \n I was born and raised in eastern North Carolina, and most of my life was spent in Kenansville, a small town in Duplin County. I graduated from Meredith College in Raleigh, where I played on the tennis team, and was the first college graduate in my family. \n I have always been a diehard North Carolina State fan. (Go, Pack!) I married my high school sweetheart who attended NCSU. I attended East Carolina University for medical school and had my first two children during this time. I did my residency in Charlotte, lived there for four years and had my third child during my last year of training. She was born prematurely after a very high-risk pregnancy, which has helped me to see close-up the challenges that some of my patients encounter. \n I believe I'm a better doctor because of that experience and am thankful that my daughter is thriving and healthy today. \n I enjoy being on the water, reading supernatural romances, running in races with my kids (when my hip is behaving) and traveling and experiencing new cultures and foods. I have traveled to Guatemala several times throughout my career and try to schedule regular medical mission trips.

Biography: I didn't always know I wanted to be in the medical field, as others may have. But once I found it, I couldn't see myself anywhere else. I love helping my patients feel better and being part of their healthcare journeys. \n My approach to healthcare is collaborative. I like to see my patients involved in their care and in the decision-making around it. I believe "the patient knows best" is a true statement. Their input should always be part of the plan. \n Collaborating with my colleagues is an important part of the way I practice medicine. If I don't know the answer to something or want a second opinion, I will not hesitate to ask or research further. I want the patient to receive the best care possible, and that may mean involving other clinicians. \n I enjoy being involved in my field. I'm board-certified through the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and currently teach two university courses to nursing students studying for their master's in nursing. \n I am the mother of two girls, and they are my biggest passion in life. I'm married, and my husband is a fire chief. I enjoy running my girls around to their activities; both are involved in swimming and dancing. A simple passion of mine is just to have fun and make others smile. Laughter truly is the best medicine!

Biography: Dr. Julia Posey, MD is an Obstetrics /amp Gynecology Specialist who practices in Wilmington, NC. She is 41 years old. Dr. Julia Posey, MD is affiliated with Novant Wilmington NC.

Biography: My dad was a pediatrician, so I grew up around medicine. I always loved seeing him interact with his patients in the community and hearing about the impact he had on their lives. I wanted to find a way to serve my community in a similar way. \n During medical school, I discovered that obstetrics and gynecology was the perfect mixture of procedures and getting to see patients in the office. It's a field that allows me to offer a continuity of care and positively impact my patients' lives. \n My goal as a physician is to help each patient feel heard and cared for. Even though a visit to a doctor's office may not always be the most enjoyable part of someone's day, I hope that a visit with me will be both beneficial and pleasant. \n I moved to Wilmington in June 2022. My family is originally from Florida, but my parents now live in Idaho, and I love skiing and hiking that terrain when I visit them. \n In my free time, I love playing beach volleyball (I was meant to live on the coast!), spending time with my golden retriever, paddleboarding and watching college football.

Biography: Medicine captured my imagination, admiration and appreciation very early on in my life. After a gymnastics sports injury as a teenager, I went from being immobile to competing again in the span of four months, thanks to my orthopedic surgeon. The experience felt like something close to magic. Needless to say, it had a lasting impact on me and was the catalyst for my pursuit of a career in medicine. \n I graduated medical school from the University of Tennessee in Memphis in 2012 and went on to do my OB-GYN residency at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, Virginia. While I always knew medicine was my calling, my specific passion for women's health did not emerge until medical school. Experiencing first-hand the incredible privilege and responsibility involved with caring for women through all stages of life, and especially childbirth, was another formative experience in my life. \n Today, I seek to leverage my education, training and life experiences to benefit the care I provide to the community. My undergraduate degree in mathematics from University of Tennessee in Knoxville gives me a strong foundation for ensuring my patients are receiving the best, most current, data-proven treatments available. But I also know that data isn't all doctors should consider; medicine is about more than what numbers tell us. I learned this lesson early in my career on a medical mission trip to Haiti where the importance of listening and understanding a patient's background first was key to successful outcomes. In addition, serving as a member on the hospital's obstetrics operations group and the surgical operations committee I am able to impact meaningful policies that improve patient care and experience. \n My husband, Aubrey Parsley, and I have two young sons. My husband's family has strong ties to Wilmington, so we settled here in 2019 to raise and grow our family. While my days as a gymnast may be behind me, I continue to enjoy being physically active. It's pretty easy to do - all I have to do is put on sneakers and chase after my two very active boys. Baking is something I loved doing with my mother as a child, and I still enjoy it today. Now, I'm thrilled to be making new memories in the kitchen with my sons.

Biography: Growing up in Chatham County, North Carolina, my parents worked at UNC Hospitals. My mother was an X-ray tech by day; my father a respiratory therapist by night. Hospital "handoffs" gave me my first exposure to the fast-paced, highly impactful world of healthcare. \n I wanted to provide excellent care to women throughout every phase of life, so being an ob-gyn was a natural fit. As I progressed through my training, I found particular joy in the operating room and in caring for women with cancer. \n A fellowship in palliative and hospice medicine was a good segue into the subspecialty of gynecologic oncology. My fellowship years shaped me into a well-rounded oncologist who always considers quality of life as I help my patients navigate tough treatments and, sometimes, tough decisions. \n While cancer treatments can be grueling, I want my patients to live life as fully as possible during treatment. I always consider the whole person in front of me as I apply evidence-based medicine to treat each patient. \n I've been honored to receive the Novant Guardian Angel Award (2024) in recognition of compassionate and empathetic care of patients with cancer and the Pope Clinical Research Award from UNC (2022) for "performance of a cancer-related research project and for demonstration of excellence in clinical cancer care." \n I participate in sponsored clinical trials at the Novant Health Zimmer Cancer Institute and collaborate with UNC on investigator-initiated studies. My research focus is tailoring treatments to maximize quality of life without limiting treatment efficacy. I have also published on disparities in palliative care. \n My husband is a urologic oncologist, and we often collaborate to treat patients who require complex surgeries or need multidisciplinary care. We have three children, and we speak Spanish at home. I love being able to communicate with my Spanish-speaking patients in their native language. In my free time, I enjoy cooking, running, spending time with friends and traveling.

Biography: Victoria Franklin, WHNP is an Obstetrics /amp Gynecology Specialist who practices in Wilmington, NC. Victoria Franklin, WHNP is affiliated with Novant Wilmington NC.

Biography: As a small child, I wanted to be a doctor but didn't know what kind. I assumed I'd practice internal or family medicine. \n Ironically, when I started medical school, I said I would never be an ob-gyn. My mother laughed, and said, "Never say never." \n When I started my clinical rotations, I found this specialty to be the perfect fit. I found I missed it when I was doing other rotations. Of course, my mother enjoyed saying, "I knew it all along" when I called toward the end of my third year to tell her I'd decided to go into obstetrics and gynecology. \n I pride myself on delivering personalized care to each patient. My strongest attribute in my professional life (which also serves me well in my personal life) is that I'm a good listener. I've been told by several patients throughout the years that I'm the only doctor they feel has ever truly listened and was, therefore, able to fix or significantly improve whatever health issue they were having. \n While I was a resident, I served on the board of the Mississippi Medical Association for two years. \n Originally from Mississippi, I grew up in the Delta as the oldest of five children. I made my way to Asheville, North Carolina, for high school and went to the College of Charleston for undergrad before returning to Mississippi for my medical training. \n After completing training, I took a job in High Point, North Carolina, as an ob-gyn and worked there for three years before moving to Wilmington in 2019. I met my husband in the area - at Wrightsville Beach - when we were in high school, but we didn't start dating for another decade. Today, we have two young children and a third on the way. \n When I have free time, I enjoy spending it with my family, as well as hiking, fishing and baking. I'm active in our church and hope to one day - when life is a little slower - take up drawing again.
