Biography: As a child, I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, which my father also has. It was a lot to take in and manage, and the experience inspired me to go into medicine. I specifically was - and am - interested in endocrine disorders. \n I aim for balance in my own life and encourage my patients to seek a healthy balance, too. I encourage patients to be aware of what they eat, to make healthy choices and to make exercise a part of their daily lives. At the same time, I know we're all human and that we occasionally eat something we know isn't good for us or fall off our exercise routine. And that's OK so long as, on most days, we aim for the best possible health. \n I'm a transplant from the West Coast. I was born in California, raised in Colorado and came to North Carolina for physician assistant school. I'm happy that my new home gives me access to the beach and mountains. Growing up where I did, I love both - but consider myself mostly a beach person. (Although in the fall, there's no place I'd rather be than hiking in the mountains.) I love travel - both domestic and international - and Spain and Maui are my favorite destinations so far.

Biography: I was initially drawn to the field of endocrinology because it allowed me to manage different and complex disorders and establish meaningful, long-term relationships with patients. Then, during my endocrinology fellowship, my mother was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. This firsthand experience with the patient and family journey, while difficult, allowed me to develop a deeper, more empathetic understanding, which I still carry today in my clinical work. \n Each patient has unique life experiences and situations that must always be taken into account when developing care plans. That is why I volunteer as a member of the Charlotte Transgender Health Care Group, a group of healthcare providers who discuss best practices, provide continuing education and discuss complex cases involving transgender healthcare. I am also a member of the Endocrine Society and the American Association of Clinical Endocrinology. This allows me to stay up to date with the latest guidelines and provide my patients with research-based treatments. \n I grew up in Las Vegas but have lived in the Southeast since my undergraduate training and consider Charlotte my second home. In my spare time, I enjoy taking walks, playing strategy board games, watching independent movies, taking road trips and spending time with my husband and daughter.

Biography: I chose endocrinology because it involves clinical nutrition, which was, and continues to be, a big interest of mine. \n Many of my relationships with patients span more than 20 years, and I recognize that we are taking care of the whole person, not just an endocrine disorder. \n I have served as the head of the obesity subcommittee for the nutrition committee at the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, and I am a co-author of its national guidelines for the medical management of obese surgery patients. I earned the association's certification in neck ultrasound, which enhances my expertise in diagnosing and treating thyroid nodes and cancer. \n In 2007, I was named board member of the year by the Charlotte chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, where I served on the board for six years. I have participated in 13 of the foundation's Ride to Cure events. \n I moved to Charlotte in 1995 with my wife and two children. We now also have two dogs. I love spending time with family (dogs included) and bicycle riding. And if you like medical thrillers, try the book I wrote, "E.M.R."! It's about a medical record system becoming self-aware, inspired by some late nights at work.

Biography: I remember, as a seventh grader, falling in love with how genius the human body was. I knew then I wanted to work in healthcare. \n My younger brother was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when he was 9 years old. One month later, my family was in a car accident that led to all of us being hospitalized. These personal experiences led me to choose a career in pediatric intensive care nursing. I wanted to be at the bedside with the patient and their family. Six years after our hospital stay, I applied to pediatric nurse practitioner (PNP) school. \n My experience as a pediatric intensive care nurse has taught me that pediatric healthcare must be a unified effort that includes participation by the patient and their parent or guardian. Each of us in the field must do our part to ensure that every child receives optimal care. I believe bringing my personal experiences to my role as a pediatric nurse practitioner benefits my patients as well as my fellow healthcare providers. \n I am married with a young son and a dog. We love traveling, bowling, exploring local parks and spending time with family.

Biography: Having a chronic medical diagnosis as a child allowed me to build close relationships with my care team. My own pediatric nurse practitioner inspired me to pursue a career in medicine. Of course, it helped that I love science and being of service to others. \n It is a privilege to help people manage their chronic disease, and I enjoy being an example for my patients. Collaborative decision making - the kind that includes provider, patient and family - is so important. I approach each patient as a unique individual and strive to meet them where they are in their healthcare journey. It takes us working together to get them feeling their best. \n I moved from Memphis, Tennessee to Charlotte, North Carolina in 2020. Outside work, I enjoy spending time with my husband, our two sons and two dogs. We like to listen to music and travel - especially to the beach and mountains. You can often catch me cheering on my favorite sports teams - the Memphis Grizzlies, the Buffalo Bills and my favorite soccer teams - Charlotte FC and Liverpool FC. But I'm probably cheering loudest at my boys' youth soccer matches.

Biography: Both my parents worked at the local hospital, so I grew up feeling entirely at home in a healthcare environment. I also grew up wanting to go into a helping profession - just as my parents did. \n When it comes to patient care, I search for the "why" behind the "what." I don't just want to know what's going on with my patients; I want to understand what led to their current condition. And I want them to understand, too. My love for pathology means I am always searching for the missing piece of the puzzle. \n I started my career by earning a master's degree in nutrition and working at Vanderbilt Children's Hospital in Nashville. While there, I decided to broaden my medical knowledge, and I earned my license as a pediatric nurse practitioner. My work in pediatrics is focused in endocrinology and the newborn nursery. \n I am married to an orthopedic spine surgeon, and we have four kids - all of whom love sports. From gymnastics to swim to soccer practice, meets and matches, I spend most of my free time driving carpool. To maintain this schedule, I start every day with 30 to 60 minutes of exercise. \n My husband and I love nature and spending time outdoors. I also have a love for art and architecture.
