She went on to complete medical school and residency at the University of South Florida. Dr. Gonzalez finished her 5 year residency as a chief resident. She has participated in several mission trips with the goal of mission work in the future. Dr. Gonzalez has presented her work at local and national meetings including the American College of Surgeons and the Southeastern Surgical Congress and has also published in peer reviewed journals such as The American Surgeon and International Journal of Abdominal Wall and Hernia Surgery. She has written book chapters along with her mentors in the field of upper gastrointestinal surgery and pancreatic malignancies.
