Primum non nocere - first, do no harm derived from the oath of Hippocrates in ancient Greece, this paradigm is still of utmost important for our patient care. We are here to help and to cure, avoiding harm to the patient at any cost. We strive to take care of the patient's physical illness, but we also thrive to address any emotional or social aspects coming with his illness. As surgeons, we inflict pain by our measures. We aim to manage the pain to the patient's satisfaction with the help of our colleagues, nurses and assistant medical personnel. Failure to do so will delay patient recovery and satisfaction.
