Biography: My focused experience in all areas of digestive health provides Digestive Health Specialists, PA and my patients with experience that can be counted on. I was born in Birmingham, Alabama and grew up in St. Louis, Missouri. I earned my B.A. degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and my MD degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine. I completed my internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where I also completed my Fellowship in Gastroenterology and Hepatology. My clinical interests include Celiac Disease, general Gastroenterology and Colon Cancer Prevention.

Care Philosophy: I believe that every patient should be treated with dignity and compassion, and that healthcare is a team effort which must provide individualized patient-centered care. For nearly two decades I have worked to provide my patients with comprehensive, cost-effective, high quality clinical care and endoscopic expertise.

Biography: James Spencer, MD, has been practicing family medicine for more than 25 years. Dr. Spencer went into medicine because of his passion of helping others. He chose family medicine because he loves the variety and continuity of care for the whole family. Dr. Spencer sees that continuity of care and understanding each patient's individual needs as keys to successful outcomes. He strives to work as a team with each individual to solve complex problems. Outside of work, Dr. Spencer's three daughters keep him busy. They enjoy family outings and soccer games. In his free time Dr. Spencer enjoys racquetball and running.

Biography: Benjamin Smith, M.D., is a board-certified general surgeon with LewisGale Physicians in Blacksburg, Virginia. Dr. Smith earned his Medical Doctorate from Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine at Hershey, and completed his residency in general surgery at Eastern Virginia Medical Center, in Norfolk. Prior to his medical studies, he graduated with highest honors from University of Mary Washington, with a Bachelor of Science in biology. Dr. Smith has over four years of general surgery practice experience and is board-certified by the American Board of Surgery. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS). Dr. Smith is welcoming new patients and referrals.
