Biography: John C. Haney, M.D., M.P.H., is a cardiothoracic surgeon and the Chair of the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery in Jacksonville, Florida. Prior to joining Mayo Clinic in Florida, Dr. Haney held many positions at Duke University Medical Center including Assistant Professor for the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Program Director of the Thoracic Surgery Residency Programs, Surgical Director for the Duke Lung Transplant and CTEPH Programs, and Director of the Thoracic Surgery Transplant Fellowship.His clinical focus includes:Adult cardiac surgery, including heart valve surgery and replacement, coronary artery bypass surgery, aortic root and ascending aneurysm surgery, mechanical support, and heart and lung transplantationExtracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO)?Pulmonary endarterectomy for chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH)In addition to his clinical activities, Dr. Haney is active in research and education, providing mentorship to residents, fellows, and junior faculty. Biography: Daniel S. Yip, M.D., is a cardiologist specializing in advanced heart failure and transplantation. Areas of clinical expertise include: Caring for patients with advanced heart failure Use of advanced medical therapies for the treatment of heart failure Use of advanced surgical therapies for the treatment of heart failure, such as mechanical circulatory support. This includes the evaluation and management of patients with left ventricular assist devices (LVAD) Evaluation and management of patients who may benefit from heart transplantation In addition to his clinical responsibilities, Dr. Yip leads the Mayo Clinic campus in Florida's patient experience efforts. Other responsibilities include leading Mayo Clinic's patient experience surveying across all sites. Dr. Yip is also a member of the Communication in Healthcare faculty, delivering courses and consultation to improve communication between health care providers and patients, as well as among health care providers.
