Care Philosophy: Dr. Kevin Varner, chairman of the Department of Orthopedics at Houston Methodist Hospital, specializes in foot and ankle disorders. Specific areas of interest include tibia fractures and sports related injuries of the foot and ankle. He serves as the head team physician for the Houston Ballet and is the assistant team orthopedic surgeon for the Houston Texans, the Houston Dynamo and the University of Houston. Biography: Tomiko Fukuda, M.D. is an orthopedic surgeon specializing and foot and ankle surgery. Originally from the Midwest, Dr. Fukuda graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She worked in Wisconsin for International Paper as a Chemical Engineer for 3 years before changing her path to medicine. She received her Medical Doctorate from the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Dr. Fukuda went on to complete her Surgical Internship and her Orthopedic Surgery Residency at McGaw Medical Center at Northwestern University School of Medicine in Chicago, Illinois. She completed a Fellowship Training Program in Foot and Ankle Surgery at the Foundation for Orthopaedic, Athletic, and Reconstructive Research in Houston, Texas.Dr. Fukuda has many honors and awards to her credit, including the Walter P. Blount Award for Orthopedics, given by the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin. She received the Janet M. Biography: Dr. William Capece attended Long Island University, in Long Island New York where he graduated cum-laude. He then proceeded to study podiatric medicine and surgery at the New York College of Podiatric Medicine where he once again graduated cum-laude and received his doctorate degree. Dr. Capece then relocated to Houston, Texas to complete a surgical residency that included rotations through the prestigious UTMB of Galveston. He chose the Clear Lake area to establish a practice where he has been for over 26 years. His practice is quite diverse that includes addressing sports medicine-related problems, deformities of the foot and ankle, bunions, hammertoes, diabetic wounds, fungal or ingrown nails, heel pain, neurological issues of the foot or ankle, arthritides, and many other problems. Dr. Capece has also been part of a team of physicians that volunteered their services and was involved in performing a medical mission in Belize. He is on the staff of many of the local hospitals such as Clear Lake Regional Medical Center, Memorial Southeast Hospital, outpatient surgical facilities such as Bay Area Surgicare. Dr. Capece is also involved with the training of podiatric residents but also has many other interests such as: running, cycling, tennis, baseball, and music composition.
