Biography: Bhavani Pokala, MD, FACS, DABOM, is a graduate of University of Missouri - Kansas City School of Medicine in Kansas City, MO. She completed her residency in General Surgery at University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE. She went on to complete a fellowship in Minimally Invasive/Bariatric Surgery at Indiana University School of Medicine in Carmel, IN. Dr. Pokala is board certified in Surgery and Obesity Medicine by the American Board of Surgery and American Board of Obesity Medicine. Dr. Pokala has a special interest in medical and surgical weight loss, robotic surgery, and surgical education. She completed her medical school training and general surgery residency at Duke University. She then completed a bariatric surgery fellowship at Carolinas Medical Center. Dr. Wang also has a Master's in Health Sciences in clinical research and has published extensively in high impact journals including the New England Journal of Medicine. She is passionate about investigating clinical outcomes and increasing access to bariatric surgery. Dr. Wang is also very involved in improving diversity and inclusion in health care and serves on the Diversity and Inclusion Committee for both the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and the Surgery Department at Wright State University. Dr. Wang is an Assistant Professor at Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine and is a member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.
