Biography: Dr. Joseph Menn is board certified by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery, and is a Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (FACFAS). He received his Bachelors degree in biology from Wilkes University in 1984. Following graduation, both he and his wife, Karen moved to Iowa to attend medical school. He was awarded his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree in 1988 and moved to St Louis, MO, where he completed his surgical residency in 1991. He joined Dr. Hamilton in practice in January 1992. Dr. Menn has been involved in leadership of his profession since medical school. He was class president of his medical school class for 4 years in Des Moines. He became involved in the South Carolina Podiatric Medical Association early in his career and eventually moved through the leadership ranks to serve two years as president from 1998-2000. Following that, in 2001 he was elected president of the southeastern USA division of the APMA and oversaw a 7 state region. He is currently serving his second three-year term as president of Division 14 (southeastern USA – SC, NC, GA, TN, AL, MS, KY) for the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. Additionally, he sits on the College's Practice Management committee. Dr. Menn is avid traveler and photographer (something he wishes he was better at!). A passionate and serious martial artist, Dr. Menn holds the rank of black belt in two different styles of martial arts. He first achieved black belt rank in Tae Kwon Do in 1987, while in medical school. Having since changed to a different style, in August 2015 Dr. Menn was promoted to black belt in Okinawan GoJu Ryu karate.

Care Philosophy: Healthcare touches every person directly and profoundly. It is an extreme privilege to be at the center of this quest for the improvement of mankind. Physicians today face more demands of verification of knowledge, resource management, cooperation, confidentiality, and moral and ethical conduct than ever before. And now is the best time to be a physician. While there are those that reminisce about a time when the demands were less, and the social position was more secure, it is also true that physicians of the past did not have the power to make a difference as they do now. Because of the cost and potential harm of its misuse, medicine receives more attention, scrutiny and regulation than many in the field have been accustomed. Therefore, the physician must think more clearly about disease and human behavior than before. Today the physician who can effectively deliver care has the opportunity to separate from his peers, and be recognized as an individual who is of tangible benefit, not merely as a scholar or member of the socioeconomically privileged, but one who is able to master an evolving and expanding field of knowledge and make it beneficial and available to his neighbor. I am proud to be a member of a profession that reaches back to the beginning of history. Many of its members have been some of the most capable and accomplished who have ever lived. Healthcare should be delivered promptly, discretely, effectively, affordably and cooperatively, and the best in the field have been doing so for centuries. Currently medicine is the most exciting and rapidly expanding field of scientific endeavor. Meeting the obligations of the future will not be accomplished with the habits of the past. However, the rewards of overcoming these obstacles will yield benefits we have yet to imagine.
