Biography: Dr. David DeBoer is an orthopaedic surgeon specializing in hip and knee replacement surgery. He co-founded Southern Joint Replacement Institute in 1999 along with Michael Christie, MD. Their goal was to create a practice that combined quality patient care with state-of-the-art technology and cutting-edge research. Dr. DeBoer's medical education started and finished at Vanderbilt University, where he earned a medical doctorate and a master's degree in biomedical engineering. After finishing his residency in orthopaedic surgery at Vanderbilt Medical Center, Dr. DeBoer also completed a fellowship under Dr. Michael Christie at Vanderbilt. Dr. DeBoer is the Joint Replacement Research Program Director for Sarah Cannon Research Institute. His research focuses on improving the outcome of joint replacement surgery and the biomechanics of the hip and knee joints. He is currently the chairman of the Clinical Best Practice Committee on Joint Replacement Surgery for the 180 hospitals in the HCA Healthcare network. Dr. Mayfield completed a Fellowship in Sports Medicine at Cincinnati Sports Medicine in Cincinnati, Ohio in 2004. He did his Residency and Internship in Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of South Alabama Medical Center in Mobile, Alabama. He was awarded his Medical Degree in 1998 at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi. He graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Molecular Biology from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. Dr. Mayfield's honors and awards include Alpha Omega Alpha and Phi Kappa Phi from the University of Mississippi, Gamma Beta Phi, and Phi Eta Sigma at Vanderbilt University. He was a 1990 National Merit Finalist. Dr. Mayfield was a member of the Carl G. Evers Society at the University of Mississippi where he established a Student/Faculty Mentor Program, and worked on a Professor Awards Banquet, Course Evaluation Protocols, and organized Primary Care Day for Medical Students. He has been a member of the Pharmacology Liaison Committee, the American Medical Association, and the Christian Medical/Dental Association Surgery Committee at The University of South Alabama. Dr. Mayfield and his wife have four children. He enjoys running, mountain biking, swimming, music (trumpet, guitar, and choir), computers, and reading.

Biography: Dr. Shibayama graduated from the University of Illinois College of Medicine with honors and is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. He attended Northwestern University for his undergraduate training, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering. His orthopedic residency training was completed in Miami, Florida, at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital. In 2006, he completed a one-year fellowship in Spine Surgery at the Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Shibayama is board-certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. Dr. Shibayama's practice encompasses surgery of the spine. His special interests include minimally invasive spine surgery, robotic spine surgery, and cervical (neck) spinal disorders. He currently treats patients at TOA's Smyrna location. Dr. Shibayama enjoys spending time with his family, weightlifting, biking, swimming, disciplining and mentoring others, and traveling. Biography: Matthew O. Barrett, M.D. graduated from Florida College in 1992 and the University of Tennessee College of Medicine in 2002. He completed a residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Missouri-Columbia Hospital and Clinics in 2006, becoming the chief resident physician through 2007. He also completed a fellowship in joint replacement at The Anderson Clinic in Alexandria, Virginia/Washington, D.C.Dr. Barrett specializes in primary and revision joint replacement of the hip and knee. He is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society since 2002, a fellow in the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons. He has served as a reviewer for the Journal of Arthroplasty and has authored 11 published articles in major orthopedic journals and was also the primary author of two textbook chapters focused on orthopedics and joint replacement.
