I contacted Joanne for a consultation. It took about two days of playing phone tag, but we eventually connected and spoke for about 20 minutes. At the end of the consult, she set up a 90-minute appointment. Later the same day she sent a long text laying out the probable approach she would take after learning more about me at the initial appointment. I was excited. Ten days later she sent a second text and abruptly cancelled the appointment, saying she couldn't trust me to be a partner in my own health and that she needed a referral from my PCP. It was a complete shock given we hadn't had any interactions since the initial phone conversation. When I asked her what had precipitated it, she said getting a referral from a PCP before scheduling an appointment was her standard policy. I'm left wondering if she's having memory issues or if she is just prone to capricious behavior...??? Either way, I suppose I should feel lucky that I learned this about her before we got started.
