After about living for 40 years and having chronic sleep problems since I was a teenager, I have struggled in all sorts of ways to get consistent good rest. However, Dr. Townsend actually understands sleep and taught me what I was doing wrong. Since my first visit, I was able to tackle my sleep once and for all, and in only a few weeks. No drugs or 'sleep hygiene' malarkey either.

Dr. Townsend put me on a specific sleep schedule to try and overcome insomnia which I had had for over 40 years. Within just 2 days, I started sleeping so much better. I rarely drove anymore and spent hours every day sleeping to try to “catch up” on my sleep. That was clearly a mistake. Dr. Townsend is absolutely wonderful!!

Post partum anxiety and insomnia
I never struggled with sleep until I started having children 3.5 years ago. My insomnia journey began with the pregnancy of my first and lasted until I sought CBTI with an online program when he was 8 months old which worked quickly to heal my insomnia. Then my 2ndchild came and insomnia all over again, couldn't fall asleep or stay asleep, let alone dreaded baby sleep interruptions from teething,sickness, etc. The online program wasnt working and a local sleep doctor recommended I seek out a psychiatrist that could prescribe medicine for post partum anxiety. Within 2 visits with Dr Townsend, my sleep was well on its way to returning to normal. Nine months of grueling insomnia fixed in 2 visits. Now, at the time of this review 6 months later, I feel as if I never struggled! If a baby wakes up, I can handle it and return to sleep with no issue, and I no longer have insomnia! Don is caring, competent and knowledgeable. My heart is full. You CAN sleep again!!!

Dr, Townsend changed my life...for the better!
I saw Dr. Townsend 5 times over a 2 month period in order to stop using medical marijuana for sleep at night, which I had done for 5-7 years. He was very patient and initially gave me a one week plan. It was simple and easy to follow. I had challenges along the way but Dr. T. helped me through them. I cannot recommend him enough. He helped me change my life. I now have a good plan for sleep without marijuana at night and know what to do if I begin to go off the tracks. He has offered to see me anytime I may need some help from him. This is very comforting. After many years of smoking pot for 'sleep' (NOT restorative healthful sleep!) I feel like I am discovering a 'new' me. This is very exciting. What he specializes in is directed towards your sleep issues, but the outcome of treatment can affect all aspects of your life. If you are thinking about taking this on, I recommend seeing Don and say, heartily, "Go for it!" You will be glad you did.

Dr. Townsend changed my life!!
When I first started seeing Dr. Townsend, I suffered from horrible insomnia where I was only sleeping 0-3 hours most nights. I was physically and emotionally exhausted & had honestly run out of hope that I would ever sleep normally again. Thankfully, I was able to start treatment within a week of calling to set up the initial appointment. Dr. Townsend was so patient and supportive, giving me the long sought after solution I had been looking for. It’s been 4 months since my initial appointment and I feel like a different person. I get quality & consistent sleep and often forget I even struggled with insomnia in the first place. If you were to tell me this four months ago, I would have never believed you. Dr. Townsend truly changed my life and I couldn’t be more grateful for him!

Fifteen years of sleeplessness and Ambien use led me to make an appointment. He provided me with a sleep restriction plan which I’m still in the process of doing as my sleep is still about 4 hours /night. This restriction along with third party CBT help I have received concurrently have helped me to view sleep differently and I am very hopeful that soon I will be sleeping normally. I do recommend Dr Townsend as he was very specific as to sleep restriction and it’s always good to get feedback while you are attempting this.

I was first referred to Dr. Townsend by the Mayo Clinic so I knew he would be legit. Completely worth it! I've struggled so much trying to get consistent, good sleep. After a few sessions, my sleep issues are no where to be found. Dr. Townsend is friendly and works to understand your specific issues with sleep and come up with a plan for you. He's great about following up in between sessions to answer any questions. I have struggled with insomnia for many years. I dreaded going to bed at night, I knew I would lay awake for hours, tossing and turning, and then be exhausted the next day. I did not expect a solution when I went to see Dr. Townsend but he gave me a plan that works for me. Within a short period of time, I was off sleeping pills, off Ativan and actually looking forward to going to bed. I’m forever grateful for Dr. Townsend’s expertise in insomnia issues and for providing me with a sleep plan to use for my lifetime!

I'm posting this through my wife's account. WOW! I'm so glad that my wife found Dr. Townsend!! I would highly recommend him! His attitude is great and his ideas are sound and he gets AMAZING RESULTS. As I look back, I still cannot believe that I can go to sleep without sleeping pills! I had been using medication to sleep for over 50 years! After our first session, Dr. Townsend suggested a plan and emailed it to me with a variety of things to try. He took into consideration my situation and my habits. I started having good results after just 1 month! Over a 2-month period I saw Dr. Townsend only three times. He gave me time to adjust to the plan we decided on and followed up with phone calls in between. He encouraged me to call him with any questions or changes. He didn't have me keep coming back constantly as other psychologists would do. This made it very inexpensive to correct the problem. I can now fall asleep within 15-20 minutes without drugs! Thank you Dr. Townsend!

I am so grateful that I found Dr Townsend. We are so lucky to have him here in the valley of the sun. He is highly competent, caring and he clearly wants to help. I first saw him in July of 2019 for severe insomnia. Within a few weeks, I went from sleeping 0-4 hours a night to 5-7 hours a night. In fact, I started sleeping better the first week and kept getting better after that. It only took 2 visits. Dr Townsend checks up on you after visits via emails, text or phone. He makes sure the sleep plan you created together is working and he provides advice on how to tweak it when certain aspects do not go as planned. I saw him again in November of 2020 after a mental breakdown, while I was under treatment for severe depression. It only took 1 visit and less than a week after I started sleeping 5-7 hours per night again, which allowed the therapy to kick in. I found out that in order to treat depression with therapy, you have to be rested for your mind to take it in. THANK YOU Dr Townsend!
