Dr. Vinod Bhatara, MD

Dr. Bhattara is one of the warmest, kind, compassionate, respectful, and intelligent psychiatrists in the state of South Dakota and this region. He is a tremendous listener who gives his patients both love and knowledge. I should add that he is an excellent teacher and gifted professor in his field. I saw him in September of 1989 while he was medical director of Charter Hospital in Sioux Falls. To my knowledge and memory I believed I stayed with him for one week. It was one of the most important and enjoyable stays at his hospital when I was 17 years old. Even though I had, what I believe now was an aneurysm and depression he helped me out tremendously. I should add that aneurysms are extremely, extremely, and impossible to detect without a cat scan, Dr. Bhattara did the best he could for me since it happened due to a very, God given, freak injury practicing high school football, I sincerely appreciate all his knowledge of adolescent psychiatry he gave me and my family. Absolutely the rudest, most disrespectful "doctor" that I had ever encountered in my life. He didn't care about how I told him I felt. He thought he knew more about how I felt than I did. I left every appointment feeling much worse than when I walked in. I also had issues getting prescriptions that I have been on for years refilled on a regular basis, even with future appointments scheduled. These are medications that you have to be tapered off of very slowly.

I was referred to this dr for my anxiety and depression. I always saw his understudy student and he would only come in for the last 2-5 min of the appointment. I did not have an issue with this. Then his student left who I had a relationship with not him. He only read the report of the student. Any way the last aapointment was during covid so it was over zoom and I did not speak to bahata during this visit. So 4-5 months later I go to refil my prescription that I have been taking for 2 plus years and the pharmacist says the dr denied the refill prescription and I need to see him. I had no notice of this before and it was really disappointing how bad the communication was. That he would just stop my prescription without consulting or reach out to me. It’s boarderline abuse how he so quick to cut your plan on his plans
