I have a history of holes in my retinas and I have Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (EDS) that can give me a higher chance of retinal detachment. She questioned why I was there in the first place as my images appeared normal, but once she actually got up and checked me out, she saw a bunch of holes. She diagnosed me with Lattice Degeneration. Did not explain it at all. Not only did she not know about EDS, but she was on her phone texting throughout the entire appointment! Didn't make eye contact with me, didn't seem to care about my experience or symptoms and was very rude. Seemed like she wanted to be out of there as soon as possible. Told me to follow up in a year. Yeah, no thanks.

Brilliant Doctor
Ms. Dedania is an absolutely brilliant specialist. She knows exactly what she is doing. I’m surprised about the negative comments. She is a doctor, not a social worker to tap you on your head.

Long wait, blunt communication
After waiting for 1.5 hours to be seen, I had a ~5m appointment with Dr. Dedania that left me feeling completely depleted and defeated. Her communication style was rushed, blunt, and detached. She didn't seem to care at all. I wish I would have asked her why she became a doctor when she asked if I had any questions. Didn't seem like she wanted to be there.

She was brusque and seemed unable to express empathy or care for me. She did not ask anything about who I am (we had never met before) or how I was doing/feeling. She immediately jumped into discussing my retinal imaging. About 2 minutes into our meeting she gave me a brand-new diagnosis accompanied by "you'll probably need surgery for this at some point. Come back to see me in 6 months". Not only did she provide zero detail on what kind of surgery, what is the chance of surgery, or any other details about it, she was stone cold and didn't provide any reassurance or emotional reaction. As a patient, it can feel incredibly scary and lonely to get a new diagnosis that you don't understand, and she amplified my feelings of being alone in a scary moment. I have concerns about the quality of care I received. She did not ask anything about my retinal history, did not ask for or look at any of my past retinal health records, and immediately jumped to a dubious conclusion about my issue.

I had a tear in my retina. Dr. Dedania performed the surgery which included laser repair of the retina. She was professional, skilled and cordial. I highly recommend her.
