Dr. Tom Obertynski, MD

Dr. Obertynski has been my ophthalmologist over a dozen years. He and the staff are always friendly and professional. He did my cataract surgeries and I’ve been very pleased with the results. Because I am borderline for glaucoma, ha keeps close watch on my eye pressure and l have complete confidence in the way he watches my health. I highly recommend Dr. Obertynski, and I would never change doctors.

Dr. Obertynski insisted I had no vision loss even though I had been diagnosed with glaucoma and partial vision loss. He did this based on one test. I reported vision loss in the eye and he smirked and said nothing was wrong based on one test. I went to a glaucoma specialist at UMich Kellogg and it was confirmed I did have vision loss in the area I reported. He changed my drops resulting in a rise in eye pressure. Had I stayed with him, i likely would have lost total vision in that eye.

I was referred by another ophthalmologist to see Dr. Obertynski because my eye pressure was so high,I had lost sight in my left eye due to Pseudoexfoliation glaucoma. They said I had nerve damage and would not regain my sight. Dr. Obertynski preformed a Trabeculectomy on my left eye, not long after the surgery I regained some sight back in my left eye. Several months later he removed a cataract, now my sight is even better. He has always been so kind and gentle with a great since of humor.

I had to go to this doctor for an emergency as my regular doctor was out of town and my ophthalmologist wanted me to see a specialist ASAP. I will never do the mistake of seeing him again. No one cared that my eye pressure was really high - 48. I was made to wait in the office for 2 hours even after I told them that I would like to get it down. Pretty much he acted as if nothing was wrong with me while I know that high pressures can affect your optic nerves. Never will recommend him to anyone.
