Awful. He is completely uncaring. Doesn’t explain things well. Has a bad bedside manner. Is only interested in telling you what to do. Doesn’t listen to his patients.

Misdiagnosed
I went to Dr Ownbey after suffering with migraines. During my time I was treated for the migraines on top of a new diagnosis of epilepsy. This ruined my life for a year. From a severe allergic reaction to the meds and he not returning my calls on what I should do to ultimately going somewhere else. I went to the epilepsy center at UNM and they found that I did not have epilepsy. The embarrassment and emotional damage has been overwhelming. I highly recommend going somewhere else.

Don't even think about going here
My wife & I both received injections in Florida to successfully treat cervical dystonia. I have been treated for 7 yrs. We went to Ownbey when we moved back to NM. and he claimed to use the same protocol my former neurologist used. NOT. It has been two months since he treated me and i am still in chronic pain in my neck. My wife also suffered from severe neck pain. She called the office 3 times leaving messages. No call backs. Finally, his rude office manager answered, claimed no messages and hung up on my wife. We did talk to a nurse who told us to wear a soft collar and it will wear off. Never heard from Ownbey. Like i said, it has been two months of chronic neck pain. Do not go here.

Poor patient service
He's an ok doctor as long as no complications with you meds or prescriptions happen. They cancelled my migraine treatment saying it wasn't delivered. I have spent the last three weeks trying to get them to authorize it through my pharmacy and now it seems they have ghosted me. No one will return my messages from the last three weeks. I have had to deal with the pharmacy to get my migraine injections prescription since the office won't even call them back. I can't even get reception to answer the phone. I am in pain and frustrated they would treat patients like this.

Moved practice locations with no notice to current patients. I was pending results of an important diagnostic test, and had no idea that my appointment to review those results was cancelled without notice to me, or if anyone had even looked at my results to let me know if there are any issues. Very neglectful conduct and very little regard for patient's health or wellbeing.

I am very disappointed in the services of this office. My mother had a nerve test over a month ago, and while they promised the results we have yet to receive the results. They won't pick up their phone, and my elderly mother has also tried numerous times. The doctor said he was going to send the results right away. Literally the worst customer service and care for a woman who is in pain and trying to be patient waiting for the results after the test she received was over 1,000.00.

He was not very professional, did not explain things well. Barely examined my mother. Flat out told her ‘it’s ALS’ without explaining anything about other possibilities. And before orderdering another diagnostic test. When he realized she has a shuffling gait and needs help standing he asked why she didn’t go to the ER. Nothing sudden happened. It has been a gradual change. Which we already stated. Why would she have? Didn’t send us home with any helpful information. Said he’d do another test to confirm but it wasn’t even necessary. The manner in which he brushed off our concerns was very rude and callous. We sought out a second opinion today at another facility and this doc was everything owenby was not. He thinks the diagnosis may be correct but was much more thorough and kind and we feel much more confident in his ability to provide care than this insensitive, incompetent Osteopath.

Dr Ownbey saved our daughter's life as she lay dying in ICU, misdiagnosed by 6 other doctors, over a four year period and massive work-ups. Neurology is NOT always an exact science. Humans are not cars. Office staff and communication can be variable at any place. Instead of being in a comatose state, our daughter is healthy and happy with multiple advanced degrees. We thank God he was there.

I would not recommend this doctor to anyone. He claims that he knows how to treat migraines, but lacks knowledge about them. He administered Botox in areas that I had never had it before and when I received a second opinion about this, I was told that the Botox should NEVER be given in these areas because it could cause serious health issues. Also, I found him to not listen and be dismissive of my concerns.

I was nervous seeing this provider after reading the reviews - but glad I went. If you want a competent provider who will assess your symptoms and formulate possible diagnoses as well as provide an awesome explanation of what might be happening, I highly recommend this provider. Dr. Ownbey asked good clinical questions, did an EEG assessment onsite to rule out other issues, and explained some ways I can better manage my migraines. True, he was not warm and fuzzy, but I definitely recommend.

Saw this jerk for symptoms of Parkinson's around 2012. I had a history of tremor, falls, hand atrophy, shuffling gait, and confusion. Did a 10 minute exam and he had me walk about 4 feet tandem walking, normal walking, and tip toeing. I was 47 years old at the time and he told me I was too young to have Parkinson's. I'm a nurse. He was offended by my reaction and all but threw my out of his office. unacceptable. I was diagnosed with Parkinson's this February in Little Rock, AR.

Horrible doctor. Avoid at all costs. 3 years ago I went to him for numbness and tingling in my hands and feet. Told me it was because I lost a lot of weight. I felt like he enjoyed the electric shock tests he did on me. I should have got a second opinion then but I assumed he knew what he was talking about. Lost the ability to drive in March 2017 and started looking into my issue again. Diagnosed with MS and a Chiari Malformation in April 2017. Trust your instincts & be your own advocate!

First, his office staff was extremely helpful with all the new patient paperwork and extremely friendly and outgoing. Second Dr. Ownbey was on time and spent a great deal of time listening to my symptoms and asking additional questions about them. He performed several tests on me and then recommended follow up blood testing and an eeg. Overall, I was extremely anxious about seeing a neurologist and came away feeling calm and trusting in him.
