Knee Surgeon, Not a Hip Surgeon Specialist
R hip replacement surgery 5-2022. I informed him I have Hypermobolity Ehlers-Danlos Syndome (hEDS). Within 4 weeks of surgery my hip was subluxating. He was positive it was my IT band. He had me follow up with his partner, Dr. Camarata (Dr. C). Prior to seeing him, I saw an MLB & NFL orthopedic specialist. He told me my hip hardware was failing 'Clunging'. Then I saw Dr. C the next day. The hip almost popped out in Dr. C's office. He confirmed another failure. He told Kavanaugh, again a revision done Nov 2022. 4 weeks later, still severe subluxating. Kavanaugh left the practice leaving me now where to go. I went back to Dr. C and he confirmed two things: One, severe subluxating he noted he just had finished 10 yr CE certification and told me that the anterior approach with someone who had spinal fusions should be done posterior. Saw another specialist who wanted to remove the hardware & start over by fracturing femur to remove Hinge Joint Kavanuagh put in. Recovery would be 1 yr

Liar. My emergency room dr spoke with him personally, yet less than 24 hours later, he has no recollection of the conversation and would not book me for a timely appointment as promised. Led me on for a year, while I suffer in pain. Do not waste your time with him.

Best Orthopedic Surgeon EVER!!!!
Dr. Kavanaugh is hands down the BEST Dr. I have EVER had!! He deserves far more than 5 stars!! I have never experienced such a caring doctor!! He replaced both of my knees and is so involved and caring every step of the way!!! I seriously did my research, and I know without a doubt that I chose the very best surgeon! He is truly one of a kind!!! If you want the BEST surgeon replacing your knees, then this is your guy!!! I am so incredibly grateful that I came across him and took the time to do my research, as I was all set to go ahead with another highly recommended surgeon. I made the right choice and you should too! At the very least, schedule a consultation!! Thank you Dr. Kavanaugh for your amazing care!!

An orthopedist for knee surgery - not hips
Six weeks after hip replacement with continuing intense pain, I finally saw Dr Kavanagh. Neither he nor his PA examined the surgery scars, which were open and had to be treated eventually at a wound clinic. He seemed interested most about scheduling me for a “Jiffy Knee” replacement, which my second orthopedist claimed was just a gimmick name. At six months, today I received a cortisone shot in the hip, which is already helpful. Dr Kavanaugh had not mentioned that possibility. The Health Grade reports will tell you that he is expert in knee surgery. So be it. Choose another physician for hip replacement.

Uncaring Staff
Actually we really liked Dr Kavanaugh.. My husband needs total knee replacement. We felt very comfortable with Dr K doing the surgery so we scheduled the surgery a future day. Then we were told Dr K was not in network with our INS so we canceled. Then I called my INS and found out he IS in network. I call the office, the girl said she hadn't heard from INS yet. I gave her the # to call. NOTHING.. I've called numerous times to no avail. Finally get a msg that yes Dr K IS in network.. So I try to get this scheduled. Promised a call back. It's been a MONTH now! No one calls back or replies to my message in the patient portal, ONLY to ask for payment of $74.40... I'm sure Dr Kavanaugh has no idea his staff is treating his patients this horrible... Sorry, Dr Kavanaugh, we wanted you to do this surgery but your staff won't comply..

Dr. Kavanagh is a great surgeon, with a welcoming bedside manor. He listens, that's extremely respectful, patient and caring. He is not a doctor that just sees you, he cares.

This guy put my hip in back in 2008. He left stitches hanging out of the wound that leeched staph into my wound. I struggled in severe pain for 2.5 years before I could get another doctor to see me and replace the hip. All the time I was in pain, his clinic didn't believe me nor help me. Then only they accused me of wanting meds. The staph was detected during an inter-operative swabbing. It led to that revision needing to be removed, a temp cement hip installed and three months later the hip I have today. The original implant was removed with a couple of taps because it never healed and seated itself. I would only recommend this guy to my worst of enemies.

It’s true that you see his PA more than him but they are very competent. He did my hip ten years ago and I have been doing well ever since. However now my knee on the opposite leg needs help and I am back to him to see what’s up. I trust him for good reason.

Dr. Kavanaugh is a great surgeon. If you want a Dr. that you only see once (the day before surgery) then he's your guy. He is very busy, and at least in my experience, he doesn't have time for you, you see his PA's more than him.
