Horrible Experience and Treatment
Unfortunately I felt like I really clicked with this doctor during my new patient appointment. But this all changed afterwards when I saw the bill and the appointment notes. During the appointment, I provided my medical history. I did not ask for nor receive any medical advice on a past, non reoccurring condition. However, I was billed as if I went into the appointment seeking medical attention for this past condition. I tried to work this through UC health but was told that “unfortunately we can be charged for our conversations”. I also told this doctor I had a history of body dysmorphia, but now am recovering and enjoy being active and healthy without being obsessive. I later saw that this doctor mentioned my HEALTHY WEIGHT BMI as a “health risk” in the appointment notes. I highly recommend avoiding this doctor.

Double Billed Physical
I was less than impressed. Got hit with a new patient visit before I could schedule a physical and then after the physical, I got double billed for the visit. When I disputed the bill, UCHealth billing pointed me to a disclaimer that indicates discussion of chronic conditions could result in additional charges. That is the whole point of a physical to actively manage your conditions so they don't become acute. Dr. Kern barely spent 10 minutes performing a bare bones physical and didn't perform much physical examination. Asked for a prescription for a new CPAP and her idea of a prescription is a 2 sentence letter saying I have medical need of a CPAP.

Tanya Kern barely spent 10 minutes with me. Despite having no insurance for a couple years, she claimed many things were only supposed to be checked “every three years”. I mentioned I have been dealing with terrible PMS for a couple years and she literally told me to “wait and see” how things go, as if I hadn’t just told her I can’t sleep, deal with extreme mood swings and debilitating cramps every month. I’ve now dealt with that for 12 more months since my appointment. I should have told her to write that on my chart. “Told patient to wait and see” If you’re reading this Tanya, start listening to your patients.

I spoke with Dr. Kern on 4/27/2020, Mon. about meds. She had me get blood work on Wed., 4/29/2020. I waited almost two weeks and haven't received a word about the results. So, I called on Mon, 5/11/2020 and spoke with Melissa who told me that the lab work didn't get done and she doesn't know why? I asked if I could talk to Dr. Kern by phone and she said she'd have her call me back. I told her that I've been waiting two weeks for this. Dr. Kern is dragging her feet and not responding. Her office isn't very responsive either. Not very caring people.

I’ve seen Dr. Kern a couple of times and she comes across as checked out, does not answer any questions, says vague things and then jumps up and leaves the room. I waited 2 weeks for this? Disappointing treatment of patients.

Dr Kern was on call for my great SCL physician and when Dr Kern called me she was rude. She interrupted me, she was uncaring and made it seem like I was bothering her. She also could not access my chart. I hope I never have to speak or see her again. Horrible physician in my opinion. No help or concern at all.

A new patient @ an annual checkup. I expressed some concerns & asked about tests maybe I should get. I was unsure of costs & she was too, so decided I'd see what those charges would be first. Just talking of this (for less than 10 minutes) she felt it was unfair to not do the tests because of her time she spent "hearing me" & pressing a few buttons. She cut me off, walked out, slammed the door, left me sitting there in my gown. I was in tears & embarrassed. I've never had a Dr. act that way.

I only gave 1 star because the office staff was helpful dealing with the repercussions of Dr. Kern's lack of professionalism and compassion. I have never in my life experienced a doctor that cared less about her patients. She made it very clear within the first minute of walking in that she only cared about reimbursement from insurance companies. Do not go see Dr. Kern, you will regret it.
