Dr. Refai is compassionate, thorough, and amazing across the board! I had struggled for years with a gagging reflex that resulted in vomiting. I went to countless doctors, three different psychiatrists, and nobody could ever tell me what was wrong with me. This went on for 7-8 years. I was beginning to think I was crazy or on the verge of passing away. That all changed after Dr. Refai actually LISTENED to what I had to say, and didn't base his diagnosis off of previous diagnoses. Talking with him, I finally felt like someone understood my pain and my symptoms. Not only did I feel heard, he cured my and vomiting with the proper treatment! I feel as though I have a new lease on life! I am forever grateful for Dr. Refai and his skill set. I am so thankful for all of Baptist behavioral health and the blessing of being treated here. The whole system, along with the app, made it very convenient on my end to receive treatment and communicate with the proper people. I've gotten treat

Came to him due to prior abuse from a psychiatrist
Telehealth
I've been with him for a decent amount of years having a prior corrupt psychiatrist who wasted a good 4 years of my life when I was young for being used to test new meds out instead of helping me with depression. I had an issue with refai and how he talked to me and my gf over the phone about my past when he knows my own past and he has the true knowledge to not say things bad toward a patient then went to say my mom contacted their office to see if my meds were on point because I've been dealing with parental mental abuse. I then wrote a review about the whole situation and for that refai and baptist removed me from being a patient and now have to struggle to find psychiatrist to continue my meds or else my mental health will go down hill. I advise anyone who has had depression or has a child with depression and more to stay far away from Refai. He only wasted my time and everytime I wanted to get off medicine it seemed like I would only get added more meds.

Dr. Refai is a very Excellent doctor! I’ve been seeing him for many years now and, I have not once been unhappy with his exchanges with me. He’s very thorough, knowledgeable about medication, interactions. He’s a very good listener. I would not have the results that I have and, be happy and living a good life without his help. Kindest regards, Donna R.

If I could put zero stars for Dr. Refai and the entire Baptist Behavioral Health system I would. I called to try to set myself up as a new patient and the scheduler would not even set me up an appointment because of the specific medication I was on. She and he were not even willing to hear my story as to why I am on that medication and that I’ve tried fourteen others. No sympathy and the fact that he just says a flat out no to patients who are taking benzodiazepines is the reason the mental health care system in America is so messed up. I would not recommend anyone to go to a doctor who won’t even give someone’s chance and is that plugged into stigmas and is so elitist.

I have been a patient for a long time. I have always been so grateful to have him as my doctor. Until my last visit. I tried explaining my current mental health and since we were on a zoom call it felt less personal and more rushed. The doctor then started aggressively mansplaining anxiety to me, using metaphors like you would use on a child. He spoke as if I was wasting his time with my complaints- as if I was just making them up I guess? I was so insulted and felt so belittled that I teared up (always do when I am angry) and couldn’t even respond more at that time. So I just quit talking. When I finally did try to clarify my statements to him- he told me “you don’t have to keep telling me over and over”. I was embarrassed and felt I had just been scolded for causing trouble. I don’t want to leave the practice but don’t think I can really trust him at this point going forward. I will say prior to this I have felt valued and respected as a patient. So I am not sure what I will do.

This guy sucks. He’s shows up late, cancels appointments with little effort to help you get a new one. I sat on Zoom for 1.5 hours waiting for him to show up. Turns out he cancelled my appointment a month prior and I had to wait another 6 weeks to see him. That’s negligent. Use another behavioral health group where you can get access to your doctor within 24 hours. Baptist behavioral is a dinosaur and there are much better options out there.

I've seen plenty of doctors & he's the only one that has effectively treated my disorder. He listened to my symptoms, prior treatments, & really probed to understand. His knowledge was impressive & could inform me on every medication on top of his head. This really made me comfortable. Best part, there's no BS about him. He's straightforward, easy to talk to, & it's not artificial. He treats you like an adult & enforces accountability. If you truly want to get better, you must see him.
