Only MD that took the time to listen
I had tried several doctors and Dr. Bloom was the only one that took the time to listen to me. He really cares about his patients and it feels that he really wants to help me to improve. I recommend him to anyone needing help.

I had to share my experience.
I read the other reviews and find it hard to believe. No other doctor has ever spent the time to find out my history with as much detail as Dr. Bloom. He even has even had me call to give updates when he thought they were needed without having me schedule another appointment. I had not slept through an entire night in almost 20 years, since a traumatic event. I would wake several times and each time I had trouble falling back asleep. Now I am able to sleep the entire night and wake up refreshed. My Internal Medicine doctor had tried to fix this issue before but it always left me feeling drugged in the morning. Dr. Bloom worked miracles for me and I do recommend this doctor.

Misdiagnosed, given rx incompatible with breastfee
I came to see him for insomnia. When I phoned him before the appointment, he told me that he has since acute insomnia like mine a million times. Said it's always someone who has a family history of bipolar. (I don't.) When I saw in for our visit, he handed me an article about bipolar in postpartum women before he assessed me. I let him conduct the assessment so he would realize I don't meet criteria for bipolar. He diagnosed me anyway. He said, 'I got you on rapid speech.' That was his only criterion. If I was speaking quickly, it was the disbelief that he was asking questions like my toilet habits as a child. I wanted to get on with it already. Then he prescribed a benzodiazepine incompatible with breastfeeding. He didn't ask a new mother if she was breastfeeding. I told him I couldn't take that medication. This is utterly bad psychiatry. Wrong diagnosis. Prescribed a medicine that is harmful to babies. He is dangerous. I'll never forget this awful experience.

Bad experience
At first Dr Bloom was thorough and attentive. Then, after seeing him several times with multiple changes in meds, one of which gave me serious side effects, he became frustrated with me after listening to some issues I was having. Called me a “loser”. Never went back and would not recommend. Very unprofessional!!

Great Doctor, Poor Billing Practices
Dr. Bloom is the best psychiatrist I've worked with. He diagnosed me correctly after many years of misdiagnoses and knew how to manipulate psychotropics, but his billing practices have the potential to take advantage of his clients. I had an hourlong session with him, then needed a short letter two days later. He asked for another session. These sessions are always open ended and never brief, and Dr. Bloom doesn't take insurance. Asking for another meeting on the heels of a one-hour, comprehensive session was concerning to me, especially given the brevity of the letter. He wasn't willing to have a conversation about my concerns and refused to write the letter, even going so far as to send me a fake letter with misspellings. Dr. Bloom's is generally worth his salt, but these sort of billing practices are unacceptable.

BEWARE! After an utterly bizarre intake exam, when I complained of side effects from the meds he prescribed, Dr. Bloom seemed utterly baffled Even if he never had a patient who experienced side effects, surely he is familiar wth the literature-apparently not. When I called a 3rd time after struggling with the medication for a month, he insisted that I return for another 'history'-another hour of his insistence that I 'must have been abused' based on his own imagination???
