Dr. Helmer is an outstanding hematologist. He was the appropriate doctor for me because he was knowledgeable about my AA diagnosis. I had many questions and my ability to read research and comprehend it were a strength of mine. I questioned everything. My ability to be resourceful was not a threat to Dr. Helmer. I attended conferences for AA Patient in Houston, Texas and Bethesda, Maryland. When I asked, "how many hATG treatments had he administered," he gave me a very honest answer." He explained to me that the hATG treatment was very similar to chemo-therapy. Dr. Helmer didn't scare me with only negative side-effects. I would recommend Dr. Helmer if you wanted an experienced, dedicated, and expert in his field. He was always prompt, courteous and provided through examinations. Dr. Helmer was the right doctor for me!

Dr. Helmer has been my Hematologist/Oncologist for the last 7 years. I value his professionalism and expertise in treating my diagnosis of myelofibrosis. He stays on top of any new medications that may be helpful in treating the splenomegaly associated with my disease. He is a very personable and caring doctor.

I went in for a regular six-month visit for labs and an office visit. I have had no problems with the service at Texas Oncology or Dr. Helmer. In fact, I'm going to miss him when he leaves. I'm a bit how things will be in the future with my care being under the guidance of someone totally new to me.

He does not care to listen to the patient's concerns. His practice is outdated and not conscientious to the patient's values and preferences. He orders unnecessary medications and tests without sound rationale.

Dr Helmer, is by far, one of my best doctors. He's very well educated and knows his choosen field of medcines speciality. He's always takes his time with his patients, answering any and all questions asked; and to me , as a patient, that's very important, he explains in exact details my medical issues, concerns and shows, he really cares about his patient's well-being. If asked; I would refre Dr. Helmer to my Family and Friends; that seeking a good well known professional Oncology Specialist of cancer related illiness and issues.

Dr. Helmer has been wonderful with me and has virtually saved my life. He diagnosed my condition in August 2013, got me on the road to recovery and normalcy and has guided me in steady improvement to a point of par with my pre-diagnosis state. Speaking of par....he has a million great golfing jokes that make my day on each visit.
