The Best Neurologist I’ve Encountered
My first impression of Dr. Markert was, admittedly, that he had certain preconceived ideas about my conditions and how to treat me. I left our first meeting feeling a little frustrated, but willing to work with him. I figured if his plan didn’t work, then we’d naturally try something else, or maybe he’d be more willing to listen to me. Short appointment times don’t help build rapport, though, and by the second meeting, I felt that we were more on the same page. He listened to me, and he also had suggestions that no other doctors had considered. It’s been years since I started going to the neurology office he practices at, and not only are the migraines I’ve had since I was 8 y.o. manageable, Dr. Markert was one of my strongest advocates in getting referrals for other conditions he suspected were causing my primary issues. He was correct, and I’m now (mostly) getting the care I need in ways I never thought possible. My neurological care hasn’t been the same without him.

don't recommend
I would not recommend Dr. Markert. I found him condescending and dismissive. As another reviewer said, he seems to decide on one explanation for symptoms and, even if it's partially correct, not consider additional explanations. You would think that the best part of his job is getting to make patients feel stupid.

Would not recommend
I found Dr. Markert extremely condescending and totally unwilling to consider multiple or overlapping explanations for my symptoms after he immediately decided that they were psychogenic. The entire appointment felt like he was trying to prove to me that he was smarter than I am - which was a waste of my time, because I came to him for his acumen and expertise. If you can see someone else instead or get a second opinion, you should.

Compassion in Allopathy
I am looking forward to becoming a whole new person because of this doctor and his team, after 20 years of the same affliction. I am very grateful to Dr. Markert for allowing me to make the decisions, but also giving his keen medical discernment. I found that Dr. Markert is perhaps a little ADHD. I do my best to come prepared, with written-down notes for my memory and his notes. It helps get down to business and any ideas about treatment can be discussed, dismissed, and agreed upon. He's a very kind man, and very empathetic. He's very honest, too. He's also the one person who told me it wasn't my fault for being ill, actually. That's really valuable, and in a doctor, priceless. I highly recommend coming prepared with notes, so that he can make a thorough diagnosis while asking clarifying questions with you. The office staff & nurse are equally kind each time I go in. They were the first to ensure I did not have a problem with my health insurance changeover.

Be careful
I went to the ER with left arm weakness and numbness that I thought indicated a possible stroke. Dr. Markert said the problem was not a TIA, but that the problem was my cervical spine and discharged me. I have had a bad neck for many years (a problem I am all too familiar with) and told Dr. Markert that this was nothing like anything I'd experienced before. The next day, I described my symptoms to a spine surgeon friend of mine, who ordered an mri of my neck, and after seeing the result, said I needed to see a cardiologist ASAP. Advanced diagnostic testing in the form of a Boston Heart panel revealed cardiovascular disease and the imminent risk of heart attack or stroke. I felt that Dr. Markert was dismissive of my incident and complaints, and I would advise other patients to be wary of his diagnostic thoroughness. The nurse said the same thing as soon as he left the room. I am glad to have separately found proper care, because this is a life and death situation and I'm only 53.

A rare find
I saw this neurologist with my uncle who has a dementia. I’m a nurse practitioner who has dedicated my career to geriatrics and even within an hour of discussion with Dr Market, I learned so much on how to approach my uncle’s issues, how to make the big decisions that come next, what we can do to prepare for decline, the eventuality of escalating care needs, and the social resources to help us navigate care and finances to maximize my uncle’s quality of like as time may (or may not be) be drawing near. I really felt like he listened, offered frank answers and had creative solutions that didn’t involve just taking more medication.

Excellent medical care
Very thorough, asks good questions. Personable and pays attention to the whole individual, not just the medical condition he's addressing. Provides a comprehensive health plan with options for patient choice.

Incredible doctor
Doctor Markert is the most compassionate caring doctor I've ever met. He is patient first, makes sure to focus on my NEEDS and I truly feel seen every time I walk in that office. I have a complex case of epilepsy, fatigue, and anxiety, and he is treating me from the whole perspective, even suggesting literature for me to read. I have never had a doctor as kind, gentle, and intelligent as this human. He has always been my advocate, and he has a really amazing white board organization system in his office, if you like visuals while you are in your visits!

Very knowledgeable, compassionate, a good listener, asked many questions, put me at ease and explained my diagnosis thoroughly. For older patients he might need to slow down a bit, but I followed along - and he frequently checked in to make sure I understood or to see if I had any questions. His office staff was friendly and efficient, and I was seen promptly.

Condescending, poor listening skills (interrupted me many times), used a white board to point out why I was wrong about some things I said. Misquoted me in his notes.
