Beware of Superior Approach to Hip Replacement
Please be aware the superior approach to hip replacement touted by Dr. Reid and his staff is not at all what they told me to expect. I have had pain down front of my surgical side thigh that started after surgery and continues 9 months later. I walk with a limp. I also started having pain in my right hip shortly after the surgery as well. I had a MRI follow up scheduled with Dr. Reid that was cancelled with no notice to me. Had I not tried to check in with my chart I would have never known. When I called to inquire they said they were going to “have Dr. Martin discuss my MRI results the following month”. Who made that decision and why wasn’t I notified at all? The appointment with Dr Reid just disappeared in my chart. I know people who have had anterior and posterior approaches to hip surgery faring much better than myself 9 months after surgery. The follow up with Dr. Justin Reid if you have any problems with his novel superior approach post surgery is not what it should be.

Good surgeon -- Lacks caring outside the OR
Dr. Reid and PA Luis performed my knee replacement surgery quite well. However, the follow-up care left a lot to be desired. The incision broke open and I spent a considerable amount of time waiting for it to heal, with no action taken by Dr. Reid. It was 3 mos. post-op before I received a referral to wound care. Ten weeks of expert wound care finally got the area healed and I could resume physical therapy. In spite of excellent physical therapy, at this time, 8 mos post-op, I have plateaued without regaining full range of motion. I believe the delay in getting good care resulted in this less-than-satisfactory outcome.

Terrific experience
Dr. Reid is a fantastic surgeon, very personable, and patiently explains everything about your procedure in much detail. My THR was remarkably easy to endure, with little pain, and recovery is going very well. His staff of nurses and assistants love their jobs and their faces can’t hide how much they care for you. Dr Reid and his staff have earned my highest recommendation.

Great Doctor
Had reverse shoulder replacement. At 11 weeks after surgery I have almost all my range of motion back. I had put surgery off for almost 5 years because I didn't know what to expect. I went to 2 other doctors and I didn't like one and the other had quit doing surgery. I was referred to Dr Reid by my primary doctor. I am so glad he did. Dr Reid is excellent and very caring and he takes the time to explain everything. The Union Pines Surgery Center is a great place to have your surgery. I will not go to any other Otho surgeon.

Hip issues
I have seen Dr. Reid several times for my hip pain. He has injected my hip a few times over the last year, with relief. He takes his time to explain the MRI findings and all the treatment options. He is well versed on up-to-date procedures, such as the HipXpert patient-specific surgery planning and navigation system. He has a link for an app with post-op patient goals, education and rehabilitation. When it is finally time for my hip replacement surgery, Dr Reid is the only one I will consider doing it.

If you need a knee replacement, see Dr. Reid!
Dr Reid is extremely honest, gives you all your options, doesn't push you into surgery. He gave me options for surgery, regular vs Mako robotic, explained all the differences. He was very honest in respect to what to expect after surgery, how much hard work it would take on my part and how long recovery would be. I appreciated his realistic nature. He also recommended the pre surgery Iovera nerve freezing procedure which I believe was an important part of my relatively pain free recovery. This procedure was performed by his PA Luis who was wonderful thru the entire surgical process as well. He is a integral part of Dr. Reid's team. Dr. Reid also prescribed a Rom Tech bike which I started riding the day after surgery, and I believe it is the biggest reason my range of motion increased so quickly after surgery. This entire experience is why I would recommend Dr.Reid and his team to everyone.
