Dr. Julie Lew, MD

Dr Lew and I have been through quite the journey with my eyes and she always has what’s best for me and my eye health in mind. I love that she isn’t satisfied with just having you see better, she wants you to be happy and have the best vision possible. I would recommend her to anyone that needs a caring, supportive and great doctor to help with their eye health needs.

A total professional who is dedicated to preserving my vision and has been doing so for years. It is because of her abilities and knowledge that I am able to have an excellent quality of life at 75 years old! With her care and attention to detail in treating my macular degeneration, I'm able to care for my wifeof 43yrs and tend to her needs. I absolutely trust Dr. Lew with whatever steps she takes or recommends concerning my treatment. I am so so very grateful to be one her patients. Anyone who has her as their ophthalmologist in southeastern Ohio should consider themselves extremely fortunate.

About 2 years ago I was riding dirt bikes and had a small crash. That evening I started having some slight vision issues. I let it go for a few days and then decided to go to urgent care. They did X-rays and thought I had pinch a nerve causing my issue’s. Few days later I visited Dr Lew she examined my eyes and noticed a issue with my eyes following each other (don’t know the medical term) Dr Lew realized there was a serious problem and scheduled me a MRI of my Brain. The MRI showed lesions on my brain. Dr Lew explained possible causes and referred me to a neurologist. They diagnosed what was causing them and referred me to infectious disease specialist for treatment. Dr.Lew followed up regularly and requested that I be treated immediately for the infection causing my brain lesions. The care I received from Dr. Lew was amazing how she did not give up on finding the issue.I cannot put into words what Dr. Lew did for me needless to say she saved my life!!

I went there very frightened about the procedure I was to face. She educated me, answering all my questions, and put me at ease. With her, the cataract removal seemed a breeze as opposed to what I thought it might be like. My surgery was a success. My only reservation is that she is part of the Holzer group. I plan to have her do my other eye when that is necessary...a satisfied patient.

I have thinning of my retina and used to see Dr. Bozkir at Holzer, but he left and they transferred me over to Dr. Lew. After checking in another gentleman checked in saying he was there for his 3:20 appointment with Dr. Lew, which was the same time as mine. I was finally taken back at 3:55. Her assistant did a basic eye exam, she then came in and asked why I was there. I told her I needed my retina reexamined as per Dr. Bozkir her old colleague and she said, "so they sent you to me? Great just what I need another patient on my list." She looked at the eye exam her assistant performed and asked if I needed a prescription written and said, "I'll see you next year." When I asked about my retinal scan she huffed and said,"your eyes are fine and I don't have time to deal with this today." Odd because she never examined me herself and she cannot gauge the thinning of my retina without the scan done by the machine. Completely unprofessional and clearly only there for a check.

Dr. Lew is thorough and as knowledgeable as I expect a doctor to be. She listens and really understands my health issues before making recommendations. It has always been apparent to me that Dr. Lew stays current with the quickly changing medical field. Knowing this has been a relief to me, and keeps me coming back year after year.

Dr. Lew is such a knowledgeable doctor. She listens to all I say, never seems in a hurry and explains very thoroughly my options. In addition to all this, she is very considerate of my time. I have never waited more than a few minutes to see her. Athens is very lucky to have such a skilled, professional doctor.

Dr. Lew is that rare blend of competence and compassion. She not only diagnosed and treated my condition (which turned out to be auto immune), but also regularly takes the time to explain ways to manage the triggers that set it off. Dr. Lew and her staff have provided outstanding care and I highly recommend her.

I wrote a review of Dr. Lew, yesterday, and also wanted to say, that my daughter has been seeing Dr. Lew since 2008. Dr.Lew is an honest and sincere doctor when it comes to protecting your sight. She was recommended to us through the NIH INSTITUTE in BETHESDA, MARYLAND. She trained there and knows this disease very well. My daughter is very happy with the treatments she receives from Dr. Lew. As long as my daughter has sight, we will continue to SEE Dr. Lew.

You will not find a better Ophthalmologist than Dr . Lew . She has been treating my whole family for several years with exceptional care . If your looking for a physician who is highly educated and has the most caring heart I have ever seen then Dr . Lew is the ophthalmologist you want to see .

I had my cataract removed Aug.1st. And was scheduled for the other one to be removed Aug 15th. Went in for my 1 week post op visit. Dr. Lew canceled my Aug.15th procedure. It was approved through insurance and I was ready to have it done. Could my cataract have gotten better since my last check up? Or possibly an error in her equipment or staff. I don't know. Also I have to have some laser procedure on the one I just had removed. It is very blurry and feels like there is something gritty.

I've received care at Wills Eye and was worried I'd not find competent care here. Dr. Lew was recommended and I couldn't be more pleased with her care. Treated for dry eyes and cataracts, I can see well, again. She is professional, compassionate and knowledgeable. As a doctor, I am picky about my healthcare and I found her to be among the best I've seen. Can't recommend her highly enough. She is adept in both the art and science of medicine and I believe that is what makes her so EXCEPTIONAL.

Having moved to Athens from Philadelphia last year, I was understandably concerned with the level of medical care available in this small college town. When I needed treatment for dry eyes and possible cataracts, my internist recommended Dr. Lew, and am I GLAD! This doctor could stand out as the model for her peers anywhere, not just in Athens, Ohio. Great "office--side" manner, and a patient and really well-informed clinician. Couldn't ask for a better ophthalmologist, even in Philly!

Dr. Lew ordered antiviral eye drops for my daughter, sight unseen, based on her mother's info that their cat had feline herpes, which isn't contagious to humans. When she did see her, she was impatient because my daughter kept blinking during the exam and acted as though it was an imposition to have to see her as a patient. Her knowledge base appears to be inadequate and her bedside manner is very poor. I wouldn't recommend her. Especially for children.
