Fantastic Surgeon
Saw Dr Gastel a month after sustaining a bad ankle injury- found out it was broken in three places. Saw him and was in the OR within two weeks. Received amazing care from him. Great bedside manner, patient, professional, obviously a very skilled surgeon to have to work on small ankle bones. Though there was a small complication with surgery removing a broken bone fragment, he did excellent solving the issue and exactly what was needed to fix my ankle. I have some new hardware but the 2 week post op x-ray showed it healing beautifully. Starting PT this week and will have my 6 week post op in two weeks. Absolutely would recommend. Caring, skilled and professional.

My right shoulder kept dislocating for years. No Dr's. Would do anything except P. T. Dr. Gastel did an MRI,and found a labral tear. I was in the OR. In 2 weeks, and my shoulder is the best it's been in 20 years.

Excellent Experience
I had a great experience with Dr. Gastel, I tore my labrum and had surgery to repair it. I was able to be seen and get the surgery in a timely manner and have had great results with my shoulder since with no complications. Dr. Gastel was extremely accommodating and made me feel very comfortable with the overall process and recovery.

Missed everything
Went to Dr. Gastel with much instability and pain in L ankle from a recent injury. Did an initial MRI and one a year later after conservative treatment and cortisone shots, he couldn't find anything there and insisted he had to scope it to figure it out. Did the arthroscopy and he cleaned out damaged synovial tissue in joint. After recovering from surgery still had all the same pain and instability. He was incredulous that this could be the case and told me to "get better shoes". Long story short, went to an actual ankle specialist and had a grade 3 torn ATFL and CFL amongst other serious injuries. Pretty tough to miss on an MRI but Dr. Gastel managed to twice. If you have a serious injury, skip this guy and find a serious doctor, he doesn't know what he's doing.

Dr. Gastel has worked on both of my knees over the course of 20 years. He also was my daughter's surgeon (ACL tear) and cared for my elderly aunt (cortisone shots in her knee.) He is excellent, he has a great bedside manner, listens to patient concerns and welcomes patient input. He is highly skilled and an excellent surgeon. I recommend him without hesitation

My first visit with the doc was in late Sept. Saw him again early Oct to go over MRI results and was in the op room Oct 31st. I'm not a medical expert, but the PT is very satisfied with where I am with my progress 5 weeks post op. So I am confident the surgery went well. I'm not sure what kind of customer service should be provided in the medical field. Maybe they should smile more often, but I was there for one thing and one thing only, to get my knee fixed as quickly as possible. Doc gave me my directions, explained them to me in detail and handed me the paper with follow up instructions and to call if anything was needed. A simple follow up call would have been nice, but it didn't make a difference as I was focused on rehabbing. Overall, the follow up went well, all my questions were answered, and the assistant has been great handling all of my paperwork with TDI and HR for my job.

I liked the staff and was seen fast. As a nurse & a patient ,I have never had such a dispappointing experience with a doctor. He never had me walk to assess my gate, yawned half the time with out any empathy. Best he could tell me was to stay off my feet & nothing broken. Made me feel I was wasting his time. Went to Road runner , got much better care there. They checked my feet( both of them not just one) , walked out feeling much better . Would not recommend Dr. Gastel

Dr. Gastel Made me feel like I was wasting his time. I hurt my knee and he made me wait 4 weeks before getting MRI. He States that the MRI found nothing and there was nothing wrong, so he told me to lose some weight because it was probably arthritis . A year later, still in agony, I went to see Dr. Brett Owens (Awesome doctor by the way) and he found on the same MRI, that I had a meniscus Tear. I ended up having surgery. Don't go to Dr. Gastel you will be WASTING your time.

The worst bedside manner that I have ever seen. He talked down to me the whole time and actually explained to me that dosage means the amount of medicine that you should take at one time. Dr I have a masters degree. I need you to do your job not give me a grammar lesson. I will never go back there. Needless to say I walked out of there with no resolution.

my sons pain in leg did not go away 3rd time at this office. Tried getting in touch with dr. he was on vaca, told office I will see anyone. And that it was time for a MRI. 2 1/2 weeks go by me calling every other day w no return calls. Went to ER and had what could be done without referral and suggested MRI needs to be done. Finally 3 weeks appt. Dr refused MRI and said PT. REALLY!!! NO diagnosis no touching or seeing leg movements but straight to PT?? Yes I moved on and found a wonderful Dr.

Very unpleasant experience, required to arrive 30 minutes prior to our appointment, only to wait 1 1/2 hours to get into a room and another 30 minutes before being seen by the physican, who barely touched my child, basically reco'd PT which we have already done (in total he spent approximately 5-10 minutes with us). Total disregard for my time, I left work 3 hours early, dismissed my child from school early for nothing! Not even an apology for delays. The most disrespective experience ever
