Terrible First Impression
TL;DR: Terrible customer service at the Kendall office for Gastro Health (which the doctor is under). Multiple failed attempts to get in touch, and when I finally did, I was left on hold and ignored. Not going back.As a potential new patient, I've tried to connect with someone at the Kendall office multiple times. I called during regular business hours (not during lunch) and even left a voicemail requesting a callback, but I never heard back. The final straw came today. I finally got through to someone, albeit close to closing time (which couldn't be helped due to my work schedule). Still, rather than showing the courtesy of at least informing me that they were closing and to call back the next day, the person I spoke to abruptly put me on hold mid-conversation, just as I was trying to confirm the doctor's name and never returned. I waited over 15 minutes before giving up.If the first impression is this poor, I can only imagine how the rest of the experience might go.

Misdiagnosis
I feel compelled to share my experience with Dr. Martel. After suffering from chronic abdominal pain, I sought help from Dr. Martel who dismissed my symptoms as IBS without thorough examination or consideration.Despite expressing the severity of my pain, his dismissive demeanor left me feeling unheard and desperate for answers. It was only after seeking a second opinion I found the true cause of my pain, which was a failing gallbladder on the brink of rupture. Had I listened to him, my gallbladder would have ruptured, leading to septicemia; an easily avoidable outcome had he considered investigating my symptoms throughly. I do not recommend.

Patient
He is great but the scheduling systems has a lot to desire, you get tired of calling for an appointment and maybe after 3 weeks you get a call from his office and if you miss the call forget it, it’s another hassle to get the appointment. Very sad, he is great.

2) cont'd. A young lady (her name is Alison) finally came to the door. I told her I need to do the lab from another doctor, a rheumatologist but I'd like to do the one from Dr. Martel at the same time. I asked for the order 'HEPATITIS B VIRUS DNA, QN, REAL TIME PCR'. She went back and forth couple times, then told me they're busy and they'll email the lab order to me later. I gave her my email address. I told her this is a routine check of the Hepatitis B virus level, so it would all be in my file. I told her I found an important part of lab order was missing much later. Anyway, they never emailed me anything, but I had to do rheumatologist's lab on time. Getting up early and standing in line are such a hassle, but I did with my husband's help. I was hoping they ordered what I need without email. But no. I just ended up with stupid lab result. I already know I'm positive. I didn't have to get up early, get there, give the blood and find positive.

I absolutely recommend Dr.Martel. I was on the quest to find a new doctor since mine is retiring soon and with the issues that can accompany gastrointestinal diseases finding the right person (emphatic, intellligent, thorough, kind, etc...) is not an easy feat. Fell in love and so grateful. His assistant Vanessa is equally amazing!
