I highly recommend Dr. Gililland!
Because I was older, I felt hesitant to have surgery on my hip. I also did not want to be put under sedation, so the Dr. agreed to do a local injection. It all went beautifully, absolutely no pain and the surgery was over within no time! My recovery was normal and I was back on my feet sooner than I ever expected! I am soon to have knee surgery, and again, I am having Dr Gililland do that surgery as well, hopefully with the same results. Thanks Dr. Gililland!

When I heard the words “hip arthroplasty” and thought of my young age (45) I was a little taken back. I quickly took to the internet and started reading, I spoke with PTs and familiar MDs I was comfortable with for next steps. One retired physician had a great suggestion, simply ask any orthopedic how many procedures specific to your surgery they have successfully accomplished with great results annually. Dr. Gililland quickly came to the the forefront for Hip replacement in our region. But next steps were no easy task, we are not Utah natives and would be traveling from out of state for the procedure. However this was one of the best moves I made, outside of my comfort zone it was time to leave the familiar local Drs and travel for an appointment. As a career Fire Captain (big skier, hunter, outdoorsman as well) my bodies ability to function at or near 100% is required in order to perform my job and be ready when the worst happens. So after extensive Internet searching, phone calls and conversations Dr Gililland and his team continued to land on top. It was time… With a quick plane ride I was in SLC and sitting in the office, PA L Wood was professional (as was all staff!) and made me feel comfortable with next steps. After scheduling the appointment I was to return in one fast month for surgery. Again my wife joined me and we both flew down the night before surgery, and arrived to The University of Utah health center surgery day by 6am. The process was smooth, professional and above any and all expectations. The staff was comforting, patient and extremely knowledgeable in answering all of my questions from day one, to surgery day and well beyond. They were there anytime I needed them along the way. To say I was nervous would be an understatement this was my hip, this was my career at stake. Again from nurses to the anesthesiologists (yes plural) and Dr. Gililland, PA Wood and their team, they were calming and ready to proceed when I was still nervous. Surgery went off without a hitch of course and the worry was for not, follow up phone calls and daily text messages were all comforting and helpful. Now seven weeks out from surgery I’ve been cautiously moving around and will begin in person physical therapy. There was a concern due to my young age and attitude I would overdo it in the following weeks from surgery so I made sure to follow the strict orders from Drs (and wife) for a successful outcome. (Hard but lots of down time… 3 weeks). I just finished my first post op appointment with x-rays and meetings with doctors and PAs and everything looking great. I’m on the mend and can’t wait to get back to hiking white water rafting and again skiing this coming winter not to mention back in the fire engine. I cannot say enough positive comments about the University of Utah health system, Dr Gililland, PA Wood and their team. If you’re doing your research please trust me when I say professional firefighters will over research everything… and I’ve done my homework this is a win and a game changer. You’re on the right path, make the call! Don’t be afraid to travel and trust their team. I will note recovery time and pain is different for everyone, I was very active upto surgery day so my recovery was a shock at how little I could do for the first 3 weeks but again I wasn’t slowed down much before so this was a change of pace. Trust the process your time and recovery will vary but know you’ve got the right professionals to help you to the finish line. #fitforfire and can’t wait to get back on the job thanks to my new titanium hip. Thanks again Doc! Capt. Charles.

Went to see him regarding knee scarring and revision surgery for both knees. He told me not to believe anything my Sports Doc and my previous surgeon had told me and that I had no scar tissue. I asked if he had read my op notes that clearly state I have excessive scar tissue and it had been debraded out of both knees but had returned. He claimed it was a mental issue and after he would run a litany of tests, he would tell me my options, but revisions were not on the table. I am 3 years out of this appointment and am going to be having total revisions as another surgeon has found the cause of the scar tissue that does exist. It should have been clear upon examination. I wasted a lot of time and emotion going to Dr. Gilliland. As I know many in the Orthopedic community I have withheld my name.

You're giving this doctor a 1 star review because you had to wait on the phone for over 15 minutes? Seriously? I wish you'd reconsider. Dr. Gililland is an exceptional surgeon with a compassionate, sincere bedside manner. He has replaced both my hips over the last 2 years and I have only had kind, friendly service from Dr. Gililland, Laura Wood and his team. I have the highest regard for him and the incredible people who work with him.

So for this has gone really poorly. I’ve tried to contact his office to get some information and schedule and appointment. I waited on the phone for 15 minutes. I finally got a live person (reception?) First question: Can you tell me how to properly prounounce his last name. Answer: I don’t really know, but what you are saying sounds good. After a few more... I asked to speak with an assistant or staff. Response: I guess I can try and find someone. After 15 minutes of elevator music. I hung up

On February 9th 2017 Dr Gililland did a hip replacement for my husband. I was reticent because he only had a healthgrade 3. However he was the only doctor who could get my husband in in a timely fashion. Now over 4 months later my husband is still in extreme pain. He never got any relief from the surgery. I initially gave him a good healthgrade rating because he is very nice, but nice just doesn't cut it anymore. I believe my husband now has nerve damage.

Dr Gililland and his team are incredible. I underwent a very complicated hip revision (after 6 previous surgeries by other surgeons over my lifetime) and it was an amazing success. I am walking, hiking, fishing and back to enjoying an active lifestyle. I will be forever grateful for what he did for me. His knowledge and expertise is far, far beyond that of most orthopedic surgeons and he and his team are warm, understanding, patient, and supportive. I would recommend him to anyone.

Worse doctor ever. I brought the scans of my leg, that he asked for . He glance at them. For about 6 seconds. Treated me as if I was beneath his notice. He was mutch to Busey to deal with the likes of me. He has the GOD complex, that some doctors get. I wouldn't send my worst enemy to him.

Dr. Gililland is one of the best orthopaedic surgeons to ever take care of me. His bed side manner surpasses that of other surgeons in the field and his knowledge and skill about my problem exceeded my expectations. I would and have recommended him to family members and they have had great results!

Dr Gilliland did an amazing job on my husbands hip implant. It was a little more complicated procedure because a year earlier he had broken his femur and he had a surgery by another dr where hardware was used. But it never healed. So that had to be removed before the implant was done. He did a great job of everythinh
