Dr. Jay Mermelstein, MD

Dr. Mermelstein is very professional, knowledgeable and respectful and makes me feel that he really cares about his patients and he never makes you feel rushed. His thoroughness in his examination led to tests at Mease Hospital, discovering my breast cancer and subsequent treatment which saved my life. I am male and you never expect to have breast cancer so it is even more difficult to have made this diagnosis. I have absolute faith in his high standard of care. He has been my primary doctor for 26 years. He has my highest recommendation.

I had a really bad experience with this doctor today. I went in as an establishment exam for a new PCP with my new insurance. Once Dr. Mermelstein sat down to talk with me and look over my check-in sheet I knew there would be problems when he looked at me and said “You don’t seem depressed.” I was shocked and said “You’re seeing me for 10 minutes out of my day, you don’t know me.” The rest of the appointment was him questioning if I really have depression, anxiety, and ADHD. These are all things I was diagnosed with as a CHILD! At one point he even said something to the effect of “We all feel sad and frustrated at times, is that what you’re calling depression?” I was lost for words. The entire exam I was uncomfortable, felt unheard, and I was counting down the minutes until my exam was over. He knows absolutely nothing about mental health disorders but COULD spend time talking to me all about my astrological sign. All-in-all I will not be returning.

He has mood swings and does not want to treat pain or symptoms revealed to him by patients. Staff is non existent some times. If a patient comes in with pain he does not address the symptom.

Dr. Mermelstein is 2nd to God! He is amazing and goes above and beyond for patients. Dr. Mermelstein is old school mentality and I LOVE IT!! If Dr. Mermestein does not know the answer... he will find it. My parents have lived more years thanks to this man. I Will never be able to repay or give enough justice to this man. Thank you Dr. Mermelstein for taking the time to care for my parents. Susan Erickson You might have to wait to see him. Why? Dr. Mermelstein takes time to care.

Dr Mermelstein has been our families exclusive family doctor for over 15 years. Any time anyone in my family has had a medical need, Jay has gone 'out of his way' to diagnose, prescribe treatment and follow-up until any problem is entirely resolved. My only concern is that he has recently moved his office a few blocks to a "Care Center" and our experience with some of the new clerical staff is not "first rate" ... some seem to be lazy and not very helpful.

One of the best doctor we have come across. He is very careful and believes in less is more. Less drug and more self health.
