Dr. Koufman was my mother's doctor in Winston NC. She always did a great job! I wish she was still in North Carolina for my son.

RUN! It doesn't take a genius to determine that gabapentin and amitriptyline may help patients suffering from severe nerve issues in their throat (neurologists and other doctors could identify this right away). Dr. Koufman figured this out early on, and uses the knowledge to make $900 per patient per visit so she can look like a hero. Many patients suffering from what they believe is reflux after they got a URI or infection actually have nerve damage in their throat. Knowing this, she gives them the drugs I mentioned above, which alleviate some nerve pain, but not for everyone. In my case, Gabapentin caused nerve pain to spread throughout my entire body, something several top neurologists confirmed happens in certain cases. When I went to Dr. Koufman, crying and asking her to help me after the nerve pain spread, she said, quote, "You're pathetic. That's impossible. You need a psychiatrist." I don't mind bluntness. I do mind power hungry dr's who just want your $, not to help.

I have been a patient with Dr. Koufman for several years. She has a unique perspective on “aerodigestive” medicine gained from years of practice, teaching, research, and thinking. This perspective allows her to diagnose the patient’s issues with the big picture in mind. Most physicians in this field only see the perspective of their specialization. Dr. Koufman treats the patient and sees the interrelationship of symptoms such as acid reflux, chronic cough, asthma, etc. This is a unique perspective in the field and saves her patients a revolving door of specialists, who treat a symptom only from the blinkered view of their specialist training. My own experience is that she gets results. And from the patient point of view, what more could one ask. If you are suffering from chronic cough and acid reflux, she will get these chronic issues under control. In my case, her approach has rectified both without the prospect of a lifetime of medications.

I am really surprised at the negative reviews for Dr. Jamie Koufman. She saved my life and I am so thankful I found her. I can say she is a little tough but she is very passionate about her work and the care of her patients. i have suffered with LPR and a chronic cough for 5 years and none of my other doctors helped me, after 3 months of treatment with Dr. Koufman my cough is completely gone. I would suggest anyone to see her for the best care.

She tossed the reports of my previous doctor away and told me to get the same tests done again. As she is popular, she thinks she is better everyone else. I didn't get the tests done again and saved money. I also didn't show up for a follow-up appointment, and she or her staff didn't bother to know why I disappeared or didn't contact them again.

Dr. Koufman is the best doctor for LPR and that’s all there is to it. No other doctor understands it and how to treat it like her and I am so lucky to have found her. Have seen so many specialists for my issue and if I could start all over and just see her first I would.

Dr. Koufman is an amazing doctor. I have been suffering with frustrating and debilitating symptoms that I knew were reflux related for 14 years. Doctors in Boston told me I did not have reflux and even referred me to psychiatrists. Dr. Koufman knew immediately what was wrong - I have post-viral vagal neuropathy causing severe reflux affecting my larynx, throat, nose/sinuses, ears and even my lungs. Dr. Koufman placed me on a life-changing regimen of medications, lifestyle changes and diet. I am so thankful I went to see her. For the first time in 14 years, I feel I can live my life again, can eat more food, and have gained much-needed weight. Thank you Dr. Koufman for your relentless research into the causes, effects and treatment of this complex medical problem. The sign in her office states "this is the last stop." It truly is.

What's the point of seeing a specialist if she won't make time to answer your questions? She is an egotistical and rude lady who thinks she knows it all. Always talk to another doctor and take a second opinion before you trust her "treatment".

Followed Jamie’s plan for healing and I have been very happy with the results. Base issue was diagnosed and a plan created that included lifestyle and diet changes supplemented with medication. Healing has occurred.

Dr. Koufman seemed like a good doctor from the reviews I had seen online, but she didn't meet my expectations. She was quite rude to me, very brisk and used terms that I as a non-medical professional couldn't understand. I suggest she changes her attitude or she wouldn't have much use for her knowledge and skills. I am not going back to her!

When I met Dr. Koufman in October of 2017, she told me "I can cure you but you're going to have to do what I say and give me 3 years." I said "I was all in." I was sick and she could see it in my eyes that I needed help. She was so right! Dr. Koufman diagnosed me with vagal nerve neuropathy, severe acid reflux, chronic cough, neurogenic and reflux related cough, laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR), and vocal fold paresis. To date, I feel the absolute best I have felt in over 10 years!

My family has been seeing Dr. Koufman for some time now. Both my wife and son have GERD and have struggled with heartburn flare ups and issues keeping food down at times. We’ve been really pleased overall, she’s done wonders for my son, and my wife had no idea that this was even something she could fix. Dr. Koufman took the time to figure out what was causing problems for both of them without invasive tests or ridiculous treatments. I couldn’t be happier with how she’s helped the people I love.

She actually took the time to listen to my symptoms instead of shoehorning me into some medication that I didn’t really need. Because she actually listened to me, she was able to figure out my actual issue, which was an uncommon form of GERD, and help me relieve my symptoms almost immediately. It’s pretty impressive what can be done when doctors actually pay heed to their patients.

I've never had an experience with a doctor before like the one I had with Dr. Koufman. I didn't feel like I was being rushed out so they could get to the next patient, I didn't feel like I was just being force-fed the latest drug that was paying the doctor to prescribe it, and I didn't ever have any hesitation about whether my best interests were being considered first and foremost. In short, it was the best experience I've ever had. She's the most trustworthy doctor I've ever been to.
