Excellent diagnostician for challenging cases
I've been seeing Dr. Hiren Patel in Massachusetts for more than a year. He correctly diagnosed a serious and unusual spine injury, including a dural tear and peripheral nerve compression. Other physicians had not been able to diagnose this problem. Dr. Patel listened carefully and respectfully and was able to think 'outside the box.' He did a systematic, meticulous evaluation, taking time to listen to feedback and answer all questions. 7 months ago, I had neurosurgery with Dr. Patel and have steadily improved. Dr. Patel is kind and compassionate and considers whole patient well-being while focusing on highly specific neurosurgery needs. His office manager Chris is great too -- always getting back right away to make appointments or convey information to Dr. Patel.

neurosurgery on back
Dr. Hiren Patel’s skills & specialized training make him a top neurosurgeon. He does 10 measurements before surgery. He scheduled 4 tests along with reading Dr. El Abd’s notes, so he was prepared. He’s a patient listener who takes his time. All questions are answered, so patients comprehend, are hopeful, & trust him. Most unique, Dr. Patel is very friendly & easy to talk to. He has an awesome sense of humor, so patients laugh & feel like family. I fondly recall daily visits at the hospital & jokes about funny things. He follows his patients through life-a testimony to his dedication & interest in their progress. Dr. Patel values a person’s health over monetary pay & donates free services to operate on people in 3rd world countries. He is compassionate & excited about these trips. Chris displays an upbeat, helpful manner when answering calls. He follows through on patients’ questions & puts in excellent effort. I highly recommend Dr. Hiren Patel to everyone.

Spinal fusion
Dr Patel is the real deal..truly about results not the money.. after reviewing my case I did need a double t-lift spinal fusion.. he made sure I was well informed through out the entire process and knew what to expect through the surgery and my after care. He is patient and makes tou feel comfortable asking any questions, even the silly ones..lol my surgery was fantastic, I was off pain meds 8 days after my surgery (my decision) but honestly I did not need them I was not in any pain. I would highly recommend d Dr. Patel to anyone needing an exceptional doctor! He truly cares about his patients with a lifetime of follow up..im in the best care with Dr patel!

Most courteous, compassionate doc I’ve had
I started seeing Dr Patel 2 years ago for spine issues that started 25 yrs ago. I have never felt hurried on the phone/in person, never talked down to when I ask questions, and never have I been pressured to have surgery, Nurses at a hospital he operates at say he has great patient outcomes. Dr. Patel is kind, compassionate, intelligent, intellectual, and has great bedside manners. He spends his off-time donating his services in 3rd world countries removing brain tumors for free! I read a negative review here - a wife claims Dr. Patel pressured her husband to have surgery. Hogwash! Dr. Patel uses surgery as the last option. Other people that see him for injuries say the same. I suspect the wife that wrote the review not only misunderstood, but is probably an over-bearing nag that doesn’t really listen, or, doesn’t let her husband speak for himself. Dr. Patel wouldn’t schedule a surgery unless the husband (the patient!) told him to. Period.

Dr. Patel is one of a kind. A physician that takes patient's health and well being over making money. He even visited me at my home after my back surgery to make sure that I was well taken care of. He coordinated all the services I needed after my surgery and Chris, his office manager, responded quickly to any questions and concerns I had. He was very professional, caring, and cordial when interacting with him. I greatly recommend the services that Dr. Patel offers.

I could not be more pleased with Dr. Patel's knowledge, skill, and demeanor. He is perhaps the most personable MD that I have have ever met (and certainly, the most pleasant and humorous surgeon). Further, he does not "rush to cut", but when it is time for surgery, he measures 10 times, assembles an amazing team, and then cuts. Thanks to Dr. Patel, at 16 days post-op (S1-L5-L4 interbody fusion), I am comfortably walking 30 minutes twice a day, well-navigating my home, and enjoying my time with my wife and two cats. Happy New Year to me!

Perhaps the most intelligent, well-mannered doctor I’ve ever met. Surgical skills and accomplishments beyond imagination. I had severe stenosis with leg pain for years , and he helped me get my life back. Plan on telling everyone about him with any back issues.

I disagree with the glib comment. Dr. Patel spent considerable time with me, more than any other doctor I have ever seen. He has a great personality and very colorful. Always available and I never felt abandoned after surgery like in the past with other surgeons.

I'll have to disagree with the negative review. Dr. Patel dresses very well, which some can find intimidating. But he's truthful and slow to operate, which is hard to find in Boston. I saw 3 other surgeons that recommended surgery, but saw Dr. Patel and we did other treatments. I'm doing great now without surgery. My friend recommended him after she had surgery and she's doing great after surgery.

Professional, straight forward and easy to talk to. Was not rushed. He was the 2nd Dr I had seen, the first wanted to do surgery and Dr. Patel said the last thing he would do was operate. He was able to treat and I am doing amazing without surgery.
