Best Doctor in the ED
Took my 16 year old to the ED for lower right quadrant pain. Dr Josephsen was the attending physician and was amazingly attentive and kind. He ordered the appropriate tests and saw to it that my daughter was treated with amazing kindness and understanding. He definitely not only listened to her but actively sought her care. Wish there were more ED doctors with such an amazing bedside manner and smile as Dr J.

He didn't listen to a thing I said
I went to the ER with symptoms consistent with a TIA (mini stroke). I described my long family history with TIAs, and the symptoms I currently experienced-mild pain in my head, difficulty speaking and right sided numbness and tingling in my face. He acted like he was listening and the called for tests right in front of me and said, 'This patient just had the worst headache of their life and we need a CT.' After he got off the phone I said, 'It wasn't the worst headache of my life-or even a headache. It was a mild pain as I just told you.' He just said, 'Okay,' and walked away. After blood tests and a CT, he came back to the room and said, 'Everything looks normal so we are going to send you home since you don't have any risk factors (which I do) and since you have no family history (which I had explicitly told him I had)'. The nurse then came in to tell me I did in fact have a TIA and needed to follow up for further testing. Did this guy even bother to look at my chart??

Went in with pain and strange sensation of muscles in my chest and substantial sudden weight loss. He spent 95% of the time talking to my mother instead of me. Was not honest about being able to do an MRI through the ER and completely ignored my chief complaint.

Dr. Josephsen had not only a friendly disposition, but an exceptional bedside manner. Beyond the pain (that I had come in with) the frantic and loud nature of neighboring patients caused me to feel absurdly uneasy. Unlike so many ED workers, Dr. Josephsen genuinely seemed to care about my discomfort and reassured me of his capabilities in resolving my issue.
