'Diagnosis' in search of a problem
Old condition, new doctor. Reigh rushed in, and, with barely a name exchange, launched into a presentation. She said she saw I had an unusual condition but wasn't interested in knowing anything about it. Since she didn't bother looking it up, she didn't know that her specialty was relevant: indeed, it was the reason I was sent to her department. When I asked a question, she quickly snipped, 'Let me finish' and continued with her lecture. She dismissed colleagues' and other specialists' understanding of the data. Realistically, my history might be too murky for clarity about the source of my condition, but since she didn’t ask…She was dismissive, argumentative, and obviously thrilled with her insight and delivery. The whole visit was an unoriginal, solipsistic, academic argument, with no implications for treatment: the status quo (no treatment) is working just fine. I've never met a doctor with so little interest in the patient in the room or the problem at hand.
