This is a doctor that tries not to communicate with patients and seems more involved with his ego than with the care of patients. He did not respond to questions on Duke My Chart nor did he of his own volition consult with other doctors who have treated said patient before initiating surgery. I do not recommend him for any medical issue. I was fortunate as an elderly patient to be able to still advocate for myself to avert an unnecessary procedure that he was eager to do. He is the first doctor that I have ever walked away from.

My husband was to have a Loop implant by Dr. Hegland. After confirming the appt. by phone, he arrived & was prepped, only to find that Dr. Hegland was out of town that day! Another doctor who had had a cancellation did the procedure. He drove 60 miles to the clinic today for a followup, but the appt. had been cancelled - without notice - because he saw his cardiologist yesterday and "did not need to see Dr. Hegland". Duke's scheduling system or the EP Clinic need a serious investigation!
