Dr Johnson is who did my ACL Reconstruction with Quad Tendon Autograft and Medial & Lateral meniscus repair. He did a great job and was very professional. The man definitely knows what he’s doing! He is a very straight to the point surgeon and I like that. He will not sugarcoat anything, but he will get you back up and going!

Excellent Surgeon
Dr. Johnson saw my daughter for a serious knee injury. He carefully and thoroughly explained each aspect of the injury (ruptured ACL. MCL, PCL, bucket handle meniscus tear, lateral meniscus tear, capsule rupture, femur fracture) and his course of action to address each tear. His confidence in her recovery has motivated her effort in PT.

Poor communication amongst staff to start. Dr Johnson was in the room less than 5 min, did not look me in the eye, did not address my concerns. Left the room while I was asking a question. I guess my 4 minutes was up.

Acl Meniscus Repair Success
Dr. Johnson made my family so comfortable in an uncomfortable situation ! My 14yr old son tore his Acl and Meniscus during a football game August 2022 , Dr.Johnson reassured us after seeing MRI and XRay at the first visit that he was confident in a successful surgery. After surgery , we attended physical therapy as directed . After being taking such great care of by Dr. Johnson My son has now fully recovered . My son is confident in his knee he is playing WR for FDHS . Thank you Dr Johnson we appreciate the amazing operation you performed and the healing hands God has blessed you with !Conn Family

Above and beyond care with Dr. Darren Johnson
Our 18 year old son sustained a serious knee injury in a high school football game in December 2021. He had 2 surgeries at another practice and countless PT visits that still left him unable to walk normally. We switched to Dr. Darren Johnson and UK in May 2022 and he had a third surgery. From the very beginning, it was a totally different experience with Dr. Johnson and his team. The surgical care and UK hospital experience was amazing! Post-op, Dr. Johnson was texting us personally to check in on him and with his progress with the PT staff, even coming to see him at his first PT visit. After 5 weeks of exceptional care and PT, our son walked for the first time without crutches in 7 long months. We were able to enjoy a family beach vacation and it was absolutely beautiful to a parents eyes to see our son walking normal again. Furthermore, he can now continue to gain strength and pursue his opportunity to play football at the collegiate level. We are so grateful!

Excellent surgeon!
I saw Dr. Johnson several months ago. I had a torn ACL and a bucket tear meniscus injury. His associate would not consider reconstruction of the ACL and would only remove the meniscus rather than attempt to repair it because she said I was too old. She suggested that I speak with Dr. Johnson. I am glad that I did. The first thing he said was that he operates on the person not the age. The surgery went well. He actually spent a great deal of time to repair the meniscus rather than remove it. I will be forever grateful to him for operating on this old broad! I highly recommend him to anyone who requires an excellent surgeon.

Thanks!
Efficient rooming, friendly staff, satisfactory explanation of procedures, and collaborates well with my PT. Most importantly, he’s personable and has good surgical outcomes. He’s fixed my knees more times than I care to count, but I wouldn’t trust anyone else to work on them.

Neglectful Post-Issues
My daughter had her 2nd knee done by Dr Johnson. First, his obnoxious bedside manner and 3 minute consult leaves a lot to be desired. Her first knee surgery has held up well by a different surgeon. The 2nd knee, he performed, after a year and a half, resulted in knee dislocations again. Daughter was already at grad school. His answer? PT to strengthen quads. Ummm no, this was the whole point of surgery. We are now heading to Boston to have the first surgeon repair the 2nd knee. Other surgeon agreed, surgery was NECESSARY. PT? Seriously? Highly insulted and angry as this is costing so much more money now. Not to mention the pain, suffering and months of PT to do AGAIN for my daughter!

I usually don't leave reviews but I had to for Dr Johnson. He came up with an excellent plan for my unique ACL injury/tibial avulsion fracture from a ski accident. When other surgeons recommended surgery, he treated me with conservative measures and saved me from surgery. I am back on my feet and in the process of fine tuning my knee function. His bedside manner is phenomenal. He treated me very well with honesty and great professionalism. 5 stars!

He comes off as cordial and competent at first. However, if a slip of anything goes wrong with recovery well then that's just too bad. He won't spend the time to help you figure it out. He will not explore options with you. He doesn't care and he will blame it on you for not doing your PT. I spent countless hours doing PT as instructed and maxed out my therapy visits with insurance. I developed significant ROM loss after my ACL reconstruction. Whether or not this happened due to a predisposition I have to develop arthrofibrosis or a technical error he may have made he was of no help. I have done research since that has informed there are many things which could have been done or handled differently to ensure my scar tissue did not return after I had a 2nd surgery with him to remove adhesions and a MUA. He sucks.

I could not be more impressed with Dr. Johnson. The care I received from him and his entire staff was excellent. I don't think you will find a better Orthopedic Specialist anywhere. You could tell he genuinely cares about his patients. Post-op he contacted me and made sure I gave him a call if any issues came up, which none did. I would highly recommend him to anyone seeking an Orthopedic Doctor.

Working with Dr. Johnson has been excellent. He performed an ACL reconstruction on my right knee, and did some work to the medial and lateral sides of my meniscus. Every interaction I have had at UKHealthcare has been top notch. Very confident in his ability, and his team (Fellow and residents included) have been outstanding. Very pleased.

Very arrogant and incompetent in my opinion.I've seen two different doctors at the facility and at least three different interns. Both Dr. Johnson and Dr. Smoot explained basics of my condition, but pretty much felt like treatment was left up to me.I couldn't get a straight forward answer out of them. They both seemed more interested in moving on to the next patient and interacting with me as little as possible.Interns were sent in ahead of the doctor. One intern very rude and condescending.
