Dr. Brett Gilbert, MD

I have had over 8 surgeries over 62 years and Dr Gilbert was by far the best. He is down to earth and straight shooter unlike most surgeons that act superior. He has a true concern for you. Takes great measures to avoid infection. The most amazing thing was a call from Dr Gilbert the day before surgery to answer any questions or concerns. This man is true professional with a servants heart. Highly recommend!!!1 Year Update: I would change nothing about my review. Only to add that I would not hesitate doing the surgery all over again with Dr Gilbert. I am walking, full recovery success story due to his skilled surgery.

Dr. Gilbert has been a professional from the beginning. My knee surgery went very well and I am so happy with the outcome. You will be in very good hands with this doctor.

Dr Gilbert is an EXCELLENT surgeon and I’ve learned that involves much more than being able to actually do the Total Knee Replacement surgery well. Dr. Gilbert considered me as a whole person and asked life-saving questions. And, He looked at me when he asked questions! He asked me about metal allergies. I HAVE THAT! and he asked about stomach irritation from NSAIDS. I HAVE THAT, too! He offered good alternatives and used them instead. He did my total knee replacement and now I can walk up stairs for the first time in a few years!

I had a hip replacement 2 years ago with Dr. Gilbert and the entire experience was great. A Duke doctor recommended that I go to EmergOrtho because of the long wait at Duke and within a day I was seen by Dr. Gilbert and my surgery was 8 weeks later. No complications. If - and when - I need the other hip done there is no question where I will go!

Everything at Emerge Ortho is first class. Dr. Gilbert is an outstanding caring, empathetic, good listener, demand for high quality and safety, first class hip and knee orthopedic surgeon. He is my angel, saviour, and model medical professional. The staff from front desk to checkout were friendly, well trained and professional. I had two hip replacements by Dr. Gilbert that significantly improved my quality of life and eliminated my severe pain.

I am 62 years old and a school teacher. I limped into doctor's Gilberts office with a left leg that hurt and did not want to move. He took x-rays which showed that my hip had osteoarthritis and it was bone on bone. He said that the only way to help me was a total hip replacement. He was direct, engaging and kind. He spent time with me and listened to my questions. He assured me that my leg and hip would be pain free after the hip replacement, and that I would be able to move again and do the things that I loved. I am very active. Three weeks later I had the hip replacement and in 5.5 weeks, I feel like the bionic woman. There is no pain in my hip and everyday I feel stronger. I do not walk with any assistance or take pain medication. It is truly remarkable. Thank you Dr. Gilbert for being my surgeon! I am the lucky one!

This was originally a second opinion after years of trying to figure things out at Cary Ortho. First visit w/in 30 minutes I had a complete diagnosis, eval, explanation and plan of action.Total hip replacement was scheduled and the process of communication etc. began. The Emerge team/ process is just that -They have this down and a system of how to communicate, when, who, what, how etc,I will say that at times Dr. Gilbert did seem a bit ‘rushed’ or quick to move on. This is likely a result of the whole system more than just Dr Gilbert though I realize. If you have questions -be prepared- with them as time is $ in today’s medical world.Dr Gilbert’s support staff/team are very good and have a bit more time to walk through things. Alfonzo Teel, his PA was superb. Excellent physician whose opinion I trust and results are excellent. Given today’s medical world he probably doesn’t spend as much time as some like but if you are prepared he will answer your questions thoroughly.

Fast & competent! Visit was a recheck on my left knee replacement with Dr Gilbert.

I saw him time after time, for months for a hip replacement- he was pleasant enough- but not only would he NEVER add me to his schedule for hip replacement; he would not even discuss how far out he was booked. I read another review that said he was ‘patient with questions’. I can’t say he wasn’t, except he was as good as any politician at never really answering them. He never really examined me. I gave up on him and changed to an orthopedic surgeon at Duke Hospital and was given a thorough exam by the physician and his PA . They looked at and explained the x-rays I had brought along from Emerge Ortho. I left with a folder on what to expect and was put on the doctor’s schedule for hip replacement the very FIRST time I saw him. The wheels are turning toward that appointment less than ONE month after I first saw the doctor.My recommendation is if you have hip issues, GO TO DUKE or even to Raleigh Orthopedics. I have had more success in the past there, too.C

Dr. Gilbert listened to everything I had to say and addressed every question fully during my visit. He did not make me feel rushed in any way during the visit.

I saw Dr. Gilbert, within two minutes of coming in he got up and his body language suggested he wanted to leave. It felt like it he was done with me. Extremely unprofessional. I had the X-ray on my phone and he suggested that I get an xray again so that they could make more money off of it. I told him that I had been doing what he had suggested previously for over 3 years and it did not help. But he suggested I continue the same stuff and prescribed a medication. It is horrible that Doctors like him charge you an arm and leg for an appointment, but cannot give you the basic amount of time to listen to you and understand what is going on before giving out their verdict. He was least interested in listening to me and more in his head One of the most unprofessional doctors I have come across. Don’t know about other doctors in this clinic, but I would not recommend this doctor Brett Gilbert the most arrogant and ignorant doctors I have come across for orthopedic issues to anyone.

I was in pain for ten years until I went ahead with a hip replacement. I can tell you just walking now is pure joy. I tell Dr. Gilbert it’s a miracle. Doing yoga and biking now three times per week. Even my posture is straighter than it ever was. I will say that at first one leg was longer, but with the PT, it corrected quickly, so just a heads up to do your exercises. Thank God for modern medicine and Dr. Gilbert! Just had my other side hip replacement and it was even better. I was walking without a cane in four days. Now I can touch my toes, bike, pickle ball and do yoga.

Dr. Gilbert performed hip replacement surgery on me and the outcome has been even better than I expected. No complications or subsequent pain. Not only was he highly competent, but he was patient with my questions and had an easy, friendly manner. His staff was great too, as were the physical therapists at EmergeOrtho. All in all -- just a terrific job. I highly recommend Dr. Gilbert.

Dr. Gilbert gave me a full hip replacement. I did my homework, getting 5 opinions before deciding on Dr. Gilbert. I wanted a reputable doctor with 5-star reviews, expertise specific to hips, lots of experience and a good bedside manner. I could check all the boxes with Dr. Gilbert. He also takes appointments in Cary, Apex, Raleigh and other local areas. One last comment, the practice handled all the billing well and I didn’t feel like I was ripped off. He uses a private hospital that provided AMAZING care and follow up.

Dr. Gilbert did my Total Knee Replacement and did an excellent job! I am 3 months post-op and for the most part I have very little pain! I highly recommend him and his staff. I am very pleased with every aspect of the care I have received from Dr. Gilbert and ALL of his staff!
