Mismanaged Pain and Care
I had a complete rotator cuff repair in March 2024 by Dr. Braden Mayer. I sent a message to Dr. Braden Mayer on December 20, 2024 about waking up in 8 out of 10 pain and still having to sleep on one side, and continuing Physical Therapy. His assistant contacted me end of day 3 days later (Dec 23) to ask me if I wanted to get an MRI instead of one of them just placing the order. No one answers the phone in the clinic. When I contacted the clinic on Dec 26 the order still had not been placed so I can't schedule the MRI. I called and the front desk clerk, Sheryl told me that she had permission to escalate it to the supervisor line for William Hepperman but no one picked up. She said she would send a message so that the manager to give me a call back. I feel as if my pain has been mismanaged and ignored by Dr. Braden Mayer and his team. I should not be in pain like this 9 months post surgery. He should be more responsive.

5 successful surgeries
Over the past 8 years Dr Mayer has performed 5 successful surgeries on major joints in my body. The first, in 2015 was my right knee followed approx 18 months later with left shoulder surgery to repair my rotator cuff, a year later my right hip followed 12 months later with my left hip & finally on 10/6/23 a reverse shoulder surgery due to a recent fall. Throughout all of these surgeries I received excellent service from Dr Mayer & his staff. Dr Mayer answer every question on my long list during each visit with patience & respect. Between visits his staff did the same. Most recent is Eric Mann who answered many phone calls from me with so many concerns. Thank you Eric!! I had decided after my first surgery that I wasn’t going to prolong the inevitable & prolong pain until I had no choice but surgery. Today I am pain free & enjoying life. So again my many thanks to Steadman Hawkins, Dr Braden Mayer & his team

I went to see this doctor as a private pay patient with a chronic knee issue. I was quoted an amount that the services would cost at the time of visit, which I agreed to. Weeks later I received a bill for hundreds of dollars more than what I was quoted at the office. I went through a whole dispute process with no avail. Hugely disappointed in their entire team. Don't go here.

My experience-incompetent and couldn't care less
I saw Dr. Mayer in February '21. I had fallen and broken my patella in 2 pieces. He did not brace it or provide crutches. He told me to walk on it as much as possible. I contacted him 2 weeks later. The pain was horrible. I kept falling. He ordered an MRI. Even after the MRI showed a step in the break, he said to stay the course. Fast forward - traumatic arthritis set in and destroyed the knee. It is not salvageable. I now need a TKA, and probably for the other knee too due to the stress caused by permanent compensation. I'm told I had a 90% chance of complete recovery in 4 months had it simply been braced. Prior to the break, I walked 4 miles a day and did 6 hours of modern dance classes a week. Today, I cannot climb a single stair. NOTE: BECAUSE THEY ARE CONNECTED TO CO, YOU ONLY HAVE 180 DAYS TO FILE MALPRACTICE. IMO- this is what happens when there are no consequences for poor care. Beware and be informed of the risk you're taking with this doctor and all state affiliated docs.

Saved My Kilimanjaro Trip
I had been training all year for a Mt. Kilimanjaro climb. One month before the trip, my knee had a slight pain and figured it would go away in a day or two. Two weeks later, the pain was not going away. I had an MRI which found a lateral meniscus tear in my knee. I was devastated and thought I would have to cancel my trip. I went to see Dr. Mayer to get his opinion and I'm so glad I did. He was very reassuring and said I could still do the climb. He gave me a cortisone shot, a special brace that shifted my knee to the inner meniscus (didn't know that existed) and a methylprednisolone dose pack. The climb was amazing and I felt virtually no knee pain especially on the summit day. I am so thankful for Dr. Mayer because I didn't realize how much this climb meant to me and what a wonderful experience it turned out to be.

So far, Dr Mayer has replaced my right shoulder and hip and soon I need to do the same with the left side. Dr. Mayer has THE BEST bedside manner and his skill level is extraordinary. After my shoulder replacement, I had no bruising at all, little swelling and was pain & drug free in 3 days!! My scars are almost non existent. No wonder he's the Bronco's surgeon as well.

Dr. Mayer did a partial knee replacement on me and so far so good. I have felt I am in good hands from day one with him. He is very personable, explains things really well, and takes his time to address all questions and concerns. He did his part, and now it is on me to do my part with my PT, exercises, and follow-up appointments.

A family member of mine had knee replacement surgery, it was not done correctly and 6 months later was told they needed another surgery to repair what was wrong. Six months after that the knee is still not usable and requires another surgery. Would not recommend him or his team for knee replacement.

Dr. Mayer completed a knee replacement and six months later I needed a revision. My knee is still not correct and I cannot bend it past 97°. His office is completely unorganized and every appointment I had ran late. They always called me in at least 30 minutes after my appointment time. Apparently his time is more important than anyone else’s. He would promise referrals to other doctors and braces, but there was never any follow up after each appointment.

Dr. Mayer and Mitch have been a dream team to work with from the day I first met them. Their level of professionalism and care is truly unrivaled. I have had multiple knee surgeries with this team and honestly wouldn’t want to go to anyone else. I am so grateful to Dr. Mayer and Mitch for everything and would happily recommend them to anyone. I feel very fortunate to have had this level of care and know I can count on them!

I would not recommend this surgeon to anyone. He promised that he would take care of me through a hip replacement surgery. After 6 weeks, he dumped me as a patient and insisted my care needed to go through my general practitioner, although all the symptoms I was suffering were due to the hip replacement.
